Few months ago I saw a bid on the vivid voltage rainbow-chu that was so obviously fake but it had multiple bids on it. Have a feeling stuff like this is only guna get more common and maybe even harder to spot.

When they popped up I also found it very fishy that they were all in such high quality. CGC 10s for PLAYTEST cards... They PLAYED with them... to TEST the game. They did a good job not trying to add fake wear, because that would have exposed them way sooner, but still. I'm sorry for everyone who bought some of those...
@Epitome_4 күн бұрын
30 yo cards randomly showing up and being 10s at all should have been the biggest red flag for these cards. No way that can happen with any play test card. This is why I can't feel too bad about the people that bought these because they used no common sense
@SuperSmashDolls3 күн бұрын
The red flag for me is the fact that these look close to the finished card designs and have card art. An actual playtest card is going to be a glorified proxy, written in pen or marker, because the people developing new cards don't have time to adjust card art or graphical effects, they just need to know if a card is bad, good, or busted.
@ObstagoonGuy3 күн бұрын
@SuperSmashDolls there are supposedly legit playtest cards out there and they look pretty much like those fake ones. The card design does matter for testing if the game is not released yet, because the cards must be visually appealing and easily readable. If they're not, the game could fail with the first set release and you can only test that by actually playing with a close version of what the finished product is going to look like. For future sets, I agree that you pretty much only need the effects.

This stuff is so confusing to me. I just got back into the hobby so I’m still learning a lot since it was 2000/2001 I was forced to “grow up” and give up my cards. The lack of provenance with all of these things is just so sketchy and these grading companies seem like they are making it up as they go. Add in that it’s so easy to lure people in through social media before anyone has a chance to really investigate. I’m wondering if the Pokémon company has commented on this? I need to take a look back at videos since literally just found your channel a few weeks ago, but how could anyone buy into something where you don’t have that provenance? Shouldn’t almost anything to do with the origins of Pokémon cards be well known at this point? I assumed it would have stayed in Japan most and been hard to get things like that out to US.

I was about to do a CGC submission to get some gold label pristines…. 😔 I think this will tarnish their reputation they’ve been building. Which sucks. I hate PSA so much and hate that they hold value like they do. Guess I’m gonna try out TAG…. Edit: my replies keep getting deleted. To start a CGC Pristine 10 always sells much higher than a PSA 10. They have premium looking and feeling slabs compared to the flimsy cheap plastic at PSA. PSA has a history of well documented damage to cards and swapping cards. The graders are not “highly trained experts” they barely make above minimum wage and have pulled some shady stuff. The grade you get is a dice roll and entirely subjective. A PSA 10 does not guarantee a nearly flawless card.

@ they raised prices of the subscription and submissions. There is 0 objectivity of grades. The same card can be submitted multiple times times and the grade it gets is a dice roll. The slabs are cheap and flimsy and just don’t look good. The graders are basically minimum wage employees. They aren’t “experts”. There have been multiple very well documented cases of a submitted cards that would have easily scored a 10 (and been very valuable) being swapped out with lower quality cards that receive a lower grade (the employee then submits the stolen card and can sell it for the high value). There have also been a ton of cards damaged during grading. 0 customer support. Nearly 2 month turnaround time. A PSA 10 doesn’t guarantee a nearly flawless card. By number of submissions and population reports, they give about 10% of all submissions 10s. With CGC for instance only 4% of submissions receive 10 and about 1% receive Pristine 10. TAG is another where a 10 means it’s nearly flawless. I can go on and on. They only have the perceived value they have because they have been in the game for a long time.
@Phicksusmc4 күн бұрын
@@Jaco1710 Let’s see…. The slabs look and feel cheap. They are just ugly and flimsy compared to their competitors. They just increased the cost of subscriptions and submissions. Nearly 2 month long turnaround times. 0 customer support. The grading is ENTIRELY subjective. It all depends on who the grader is. Which by the way they are nearly minimum wage employees. Not “highly trained experts”. The grade you get is a dice roll. A PSA 10 doesn’t guarantee a nearly flawless card. They are too lenient and again, the graders get it wrong most of the time. Based on submission numbers and population reports, about 10% of PSA submissions receive a 10. CGC for example, only 4% receive 10 and about 1% receive pristine 10. TAG is similarly strict with grading (and entirely objective). There have been numerous well documented cases of PSA damaging cards. There are also multiple well documented cases where a submitted card has been swapped out for a lower quality copy of the same card (presumably the employee then submits the stolen card as their own to get the 10 grade and reap the profits). PSA only has perceived value because they have been around for a long time.

I don't really understand how people fell for this. I don't understand how CGC fell for this. I would say if you find a single Gem/Pristine 10 card off of it, it might be legitimate, but there's zero chance that someone decided "these playtest cards are worth treasuring for nearly 30 years while apparently not doing my job as a playtester." The vast majority of these cards would at best be LP if they were legitimate - because the playtesters would be treating the cards with zero care. There's no reason why they would assume the cards would be precious enough in the future to keep them clean and secure for 30 years. And even if that was the case, why start grading them in 2024? Why not 2023, 2022, 2021, etc.? If they just wanted the financial gains, they would surely grade and sell them in 2021/22?
