Chestnut mares are the best. Work with them and they give you everything. I had mine for 21 years. My soul mate

I love working with them all but mares do require that extra bit and are so rewarding when they let you in! They do become your best friend

An old saying: You ask a stallion to do something. You tell a gelding to do something. You submit a request in writing three weeks in advance to ask a mare to do something.

So true 😂

Perhaps lateral flexion and disengage the hind quarter from the ground . Definitely groundwork not lunging. And of course soften the ribcage. I hope you are more experienced than it looks. I know I have had these days.

Not sure how to take your comment, ' I hope you are more experienced than it looks'?! Her body and brain isn't ready for lateral work yet, she just needs to focus on going forward and streching over the back. She is only at the very start of her retraining after coming to us straight out of racing, the 3rd & 4th day of her ridden! Just in case you are interested, this is her now a couple of weeks ago kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHK5ZYqkrpaEpJYsi=YWxXaW1UK7651Zn5

@@millsstables I want to first apologize for my comment. I knew after I sent it it was wrong to judge your riding and program. I am a big proponent of groundwork. A horse that walks off from the mounting block is not ready to ride and is not paying attention to what I am asking. I made the mistake with my first Thoroughbred to assume he knew how to be a rideable horse with an understanding of the aids (legs, hands, etc). Boy was I wrong. We will most likely never cross paths, and I was wrong to be disrespectful of you. My intention was to be helpful, but that was unrealistic on my part. Without context or knowing you personally I cannot communicate my thoughts in a productive manner. Here is to me learning to stay off the keyboard. I kind of broke my own rule, "horsemanship is about impressing your horse not your friends".

@@LevelOneHorsemanship thanks for the apology. We can all learn a little bit from each other and we all train horses differently. We are also all doing it for the same thing, because we love horses!
