Molly is frightened of crossing the river on the ferry for the class excursion. But once she shares her fear with her friend Milly, they are able to work through it. Molly uses this lesson to help another classmate when the excursion is trapped out overnight by rising floodwaters. Milly and Molly are best friends of ethnically diverse backgrounds who live in a small unnamed town in the countryside. Each day the girls and all their friends experience new adventures that teach them valuable life-lessons. Their stories deal with the kinds of questions and trials that children face every day-and offer understanding in such matters as honesty, respect for others, difference, tenacity, exercise, cooperation, respect for nature, bullying, stranger danger, forgiveness, trustworthiness, responsibility, loyalty, loss, and grief-and many other areas that are challenging to young children.
