As coaches, we regularly get asked how to start the golf downswing sequence. Let's go over it and how we can use our ribcage!
🔑🌪️ Milo's 5 KEYS to a Rotational Golf Swing: milolinesgolf.com/5-keys-to-u...
In this video with Elite Golf Schools, we'll uncover a move that we see happening during this transition and the beginnings of the golf downswing sequence, and that is the sway of the ribcage. This move which happens along with the pressure shift back to the lead side helps us stack up our centers (upper and lower), the torso and pelvis, so we can then turn into the ball with proper low point control, angle of attack, and path. Without this landing phase, turning or rotating only spins us out and can create a steep downswing. In addition to the rib sway early in the downswing, we'll also look at the rib sway early in the backswing and takeaway which helps create a proper wind up off the ball. We hope you enjoy this addition to our elite golf series!

This is pure gold. This is the missing piece of the puzzle that explains how pro's get into that classic impact position while the rest of us think how do they do that. The tape on the back really drove it home for me. I expect to see a stack of other youtube golf creators suddenly doing videos like this. Does anyone else feel like a little bit of air is being squeezed out of the lungs when doing this (or maybe that's just me)?

More great advice I can try in 30 seconds because of Milo's earlier great advice: practice into a net! No paying for range balls, and with my launch monitor, can instantly see the real effects of different variables or swing thoughts. Thinking of this stretch with some 7 irons in my slippers gave me very consistent contact and distances just 3 to 5 % less than my all-time record. Because swaying is such a swing killer for ams like me, this feels like it allows more stretching and range of motion without my center mass straying ouside my hips - which makes it feel like autopilot to get my weight to the front leg and open up on balance, a long-term flaw. Looking to marry this with key match-ups from my online Milo lessons, which already raised my carry distances to where I'm making half my bogies over greens instead of short.

Awwesome vdo really!! Just one question. from earlier he showed that their is the right bend for the downswing (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="235">3:55</a>) and then, almost at the end (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="567">9:27</a>), Riley said it has the left bend for the backswing. Have I undertood it right?

A touring pro at an indoor range once said to me „just feel like your latissimus is pulling down and back“ - didn’t understand it at the time, but now realized that this intention will utilize ribcage sway. You get forward lowpoint, negative attack angle and massive power all in one bundle with one simple swing thought.

Have to tell you this works really well. For one thing it's almost impossible to come over the top. Second it sets you up for the downswing so cleanly all you have to do is turn and burn. Finally, it is athletic. I played hockey growing up and this feels very similar. Well, without hockey skates lol...

So it almost feels like a more Shakira move? The sacrum falls backwards and rotates open and the forward pressure is achieved by this ribcage sway to get that "hips don't lie" feel?

can this rib sway be done at setup to trying to get back there on the downswing?

Like a forward rib sway? Typically I like fairly neutral at setup to maybe a hair of right side bend depending on the club.

The hardest part for me is when coming into impact is having the pressure shift forward but yet keeping your head behind the ball at the moment of the strike.

Sounds like you are drifting too much, perhaps pushing too late off your lead side? Something like the Downshift Board could help. I'd need to see.
@piazzaj88
@piazzaj88 Жыл бұрын
My one swing thought right now is "pressure shift forward, head behind the ball". Helps for me to look behind the ball about an inch and try my best to keep it there throughout the swing until it comes up naturally. Definitely helps me stay in posture, release the club in front of me
@rackum44
@rackum44 Жыл бұрын
@@piazzaj88 Yes that is my thought but when I shift and rotate my hips it's hard to keep my head steady behind the ball without it moving forward with my hips and I know you're supposed to have right side then but I don't want to hang back
@piazzaj88
@piazzaj88 Жыл бұрын
@@rackum44 I've been in a similar spot. What helped me a ton was thinking about shifting the pressure left before any rotation happens. Keep your back to the target as you shift left, then you can rotate hard through the ball because you're in a good position. If you're spinning your hips too early, its so easy to come over the top and your head will move too

So, isn’t this moving us off the ball in the takeaway? I thought we were trying to stay centered to hit irons flush. One more thing, I still haven’t figured out the dropping lower move in your downswing. It looks like a lot of hand-eye coordination which generally comes natural to athletic types with baseball, tennis hockey backgrounds but is hard on everyone else.. Otherwise, really enjoying the content.
@MiloLinesGolf

It’s hard because most people want to power hard from the top with hands and arms. We coach how to use them more dynamically. And a little movement isn’t bad as long as we convert it to turn. Their will be less sway with shorter clubs though, yes.
