Milton HighFlo PRO vs Harbor Freight 3/8in couplers

Short little head to head about 3/8th in high flow air line couplers/fittings.

You can get these high flow fittings at Home Depot in a kit. Replaced every fitting in my shop with them. Made a huge difference in my air tools. The ones from Home Depot are good quality.

Torque Test did a test on these 3/8 vs Milton V's, and the numbers showed the Milton V's actually flow slightly more.

i love my Miltons. My aircat just purrs like a kitten. Nothing is too much for my 1150. Just turn up the air and off it comes. So easy with good air tools.

The Harbor Freight 3/8" are identical to and compatible with the Milton "P" type. They say the flow of them is 68CFM, and the V type which is the "1/4 High flow" and are compatible with the same from harbor freight are listed at 74 cfm. I agree with Oil Burner, if the true diameter of the 3/8 is indeed bigger than the V type, then the flow must be greater, but we must also check the hole size in the barrel down inside the female coupler size that poses a potential flow restriction, I know for sure I could blow more air through just the male fitting alone than both coupled together.

Its lighter cause it's made from aluminum to reduce weight....The Milton high flow V are a great choice and after using them long enough you can see the difference in quality

I put these fittings on my apparently geriatric IR impact gun. I didn't have an impact socket the right size for truck dual wheels so I used a Craftsman regular socket. When I hit the trigger, it smashed the Craftsman socket into 3 pieces. Lucky I was wearing a face shield. The power was explosive! Later, with a proper deep impact socket, the wheel nut didn't last a second before zinging off. These things should be mandatory on all air lines.

@@woodworkerroyer8497 Neither. In Australia we don't have either of those stores, but I used the local 3/8" ones which are called "Nitto" style fittings.

Here is the deal, I measured the 3 types that I have. The flimsy std 1/4” bore is 3/16, the Milton V style S-217 has a bore of 17/64 and the T style 3/8th which is S-1809 has a bore of 19/64. So theoretically the 1809 should have more airflow but Milton advertises it to be 68 scfm in comparison to V style as 74 scfm. Seems a bit sketchy to me, 3/8th definitely moves more air.

Thank you, been looking everywhere trying to find if the V was bigger smaller or same as just a 3/8 fitting. I'm going with the 3/8 fitting...probably made better too. The milton v color packs are aluminum and I think less ball bearings that grab the male.

17/64 is 6.75mm. That is almost the same as Euro style we use in Europe (just measured a couple of my own and they are 6,8 mm). Been wondering why V style are called high flow, but if you also have 3/16 size, no wonder - the difference in surface area between 3/16 and 17/64 is double.

Milton 1809 1/4" MNPT P Style Plug is same as Harbor Freight. A 10 pack is $15 on amazon. They seem bulky but may last longer.

Can you please measure the inner diameter of the fitting outlet on both the HF and Milton ones?

Buy milton V style, then you can use both V and M style fittings.

I would not mix the "V" and "M" style fittings. The M plug will physically go into a V coupling but it is a loose fit. If it blows out under pressure, watch out. The V style plugs are slightly bigger on the outside and you can see it if you hold a V and an M style side by side. This means the V style coupling is slightly bigger inside to accommodate that. Yes, you can put an M style plug in a V style coupling but it's not a tight fit. Does that apply to universal style couplings? Don't know....yet.

None of my tools come with the 3/8’s. Even my impact wrench came with the 1/4.

Any idea on my 8ssue is there often connecting issues from 1/4 vs 3/8? I have some (yes I know its not the best gear) lidl boys and some that are not but fit the parkside compressor .....recently the connection has determined so I cut to put a new replaceable connection ive got the tail in but the (what I thought was correct ) 1/4 inch connector from screw fix but do not fit my air tools inc my brad nailer please advise thanks

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with automotive style fittings. HOWEVER, if you already have the industrial type, which most people do, it is likely better to STAY with the industrial flavor.

Lol the Harbor freight ones feels beefier because they have a bigger body 3/8's v.s. Milton 1/4 body but the hole thru it is about the same. Fitting felt loose because of the thin collar of the industrial fitting, Auto has the thicker collar with no slop.

With the milton high flow you can use standard fittings in the coupler too. HF fittings suck.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Milton also makes 3/8 inch fittings which have the same size/bulk as the Chinese fittings from HF. You can also buy the Milton fittings in brass or steel. I just changed my set up to to all Milton high flow. Purchased a 3/8 regulator so it won't bottleneck the larger fittings. If you use a small 1/4 inch fitting air/water filter and or regulator, it only flows 47 cfm, where the 3/8 inch unites will pass 74 cfm. Kind of wish I spent a little more and did everything in 1/2 inch, but live and learn, right?

You're comparing apples to oranges! A high flow fitting obviously has less "beef" than a same size restricted fitting. And your HF fitting moved as much as the Milton did. If you want a QUALITY HIGH FLOW, buy the Milton V style fittings. If you don't care what you get, buy HF.
