I agree that this is possibly the most useful knife I've ever owned for daily real-world use. I don't think you can really compare it to a traditional multi-tool, but I don't need all the bells and whistles on a traditional multi-tool on a daily basis, either. This one checks all the important boxes. Sharp. Easy to "re-sharpen." Onboard storage for a spare blade (with two edges, to boot).

Love the vids. I use this knife everyday and found out that it has indeed a dedicated place to store a extra blade . On the pocket clip side of the knife it has a blade logo. Across from it there is a little tab , when you press it it allows a blade to perfectly fit there. Im not sure why they do not mention this in the package but its makes this knife even better. Hope it helps.

There was a point when I was doing more installs that I probably had 7-10 Fastbacks. They are such great cutters. The button lock is killer and they are durable. How many times mine fell 15’-20’ off scaffolding and were fine was amazing. Back then they only had two models, basic and the one with a six razor blade holder. This one is sick, I’m gonna buy one for my bugout bag. Doesn’t matter how many nice knives you have.. sometimes you need a razor-blade. Great breakdown! 2:00 A few things that should be mentioned (applies to all Fastbacks). 1) After a few days/weeks in your pocket/bag and regular use, these become quite filled with debris and will no longer 'self-swing' for release. 2) Milwaukee (like many other Chinese manufacturers, unfortunately) use that shitty insane green Shenzhen "thread lock" (which is actually more akin to a mild epoxy). Because of this, regular maintenance, for the first time, is a chore requiring a high-power soldering gun or heat gun (but you'll probably still chew through a few Torx bits).
@RafaelGonzalez. Жыл бұрын
Damn, is that why I can't unscrew like 6 of the connecting screws? So just heat them up and they should lossen up? Everytime I tried, they would just spin freely with the other side, even when I had a bit on the other side held with plires
@johnfaustus1 Жыл бұрын
@@RafaelGonzalez. Yup, personally I use my SnapOn R490 550W soldering iron (easier to target the heat versus a heat gun). Just hold the tip on the Torx screw for about 10second until you see a bit of smoke - that's the Chinese epoxy (lol 'thread lock') burning off. Then quickly loosen (make sure you have purchase on the other side if applicable). Also, buy a pack of good quality bits - I bought a 10/bag bulk pack of T6s from Grainger and still have gone through 3 of them.

One note: the depth of the little notches at the top of the blade really matter. I just got a FastBack the other day and the utility blades that I have on hand won't lock in place. The blade that comes with the FB will lock, but the notches on my blades are about a millimeter too shallow and won't allow the metal tab to lock in place. Seems that Milwaukee should have designed this to accommodate slight variations. The blades I have were purchased at Do It Best hardware, so they're pretty mainstream.

Multi tools generally don’t have a utility knife on them. @BLUMPKING693 жыл бұрын
Working in dirt/mud/water (irrigation and tiling) this thing was almost revolutionary. Been through plenty of Leatherman blades, and waiting for shipping on a new one is infinitely less practical than a utility knife. I’ve been using a Fastback 2 for awhile at work, & it’s ok but has some major cons. There’s a lot of “gee whiz” features that make more sense coming from a Walmart tool than Milwaukee. •the button lock is a poor choice for a blade with 2 open positions. It prevents the use of a cam which would allow the blade to be pulled out. •as a sick joke, Milwaukee left a thumb nail pull on the blade, just to see if you can rip your nail off on the job. It serves 0 purpose & probably is a remnant from the OEM reusing parts. (Menards has had a similar knife for years.) •flicking it open in front of some customers/clients gets you some dirty looks or worse. • the button lock sucks when packed with dirt gypsum or sawdust, so don’t drop it on the job. •the button lock must not have any taper, b/c the lockup was good when I got it, but now it’s a bit sloppy. If it were tapered & not a cylinder, the lockup would be maintained through wear & tear. •the blade exchange is pretty sturdy, but more than once I’ve flicked it open and launched the blade, b/c I used extra force since the pivot was sticking. •zinc alloy or whatever metal, is a cheap & outdated handle material. G10 or FRN would be lighter, grippier & not painful to touch in the cold. •speaking of cold, the button lock’s spring is stupidly strong. I have stronger hands than 99% of people & it’s annoying to use. But when you’re wearing work or insisted weather gloves, it just makes it difficult to use.
@txtoolcrib3 жыл бұрын
Have you considered trying a different brand, considering the issues you have encountered?
@GabeMacDonnell3 жыл бұрын
TX Tool Crib yes, & I own just about every utility blade holder out there., b/c i use them so much. A Stanley 99 is tough to beat, but a clip and folder are better for carrying w/o my belt rig. Thing is, despite all that, the Fastback 2 is pretty good. It's pros outweigh the cons, but the cons are frustrating b/c of how good the pros are. Outdoor Edge has a good design, sort of a Spyderco format FRN handle folder. It's really nice but unfortunately, the blade exchange is too weak.
@GabeMacDonnell3 жыл бұрын
TX Tool Crib so i finally got my hands on THIS model of Fastback & it takes care of a lot of my previous criticisms. Better handle material, more ergonomic shape. More important, the button lock is much improved over previous models, requiring far less travel & pressure to actuate, so you can use it w/ thick gloves. There's a bit more clearance on the lock so it *looks* like it won't get jammed up as easily. It got rid of the 2-position blade lock, which could be useful but most times was annoying. The blade retention is better & the release button is flipped so its not accidentally actuated by right handers. The clip is improved w/ a wider base, so its less flimsy. Still have some nitpicks: *there's still no cam on the lockup, so you have to unlock to open *despite that, there's still a useless thumbnail pull *it would've been great if they used a ball retention instead of wire for the double sided bit. That way it'd be compatible w/ the cheap & easily available Klein, Ideal & Milwaukee bits for 11-in-1 screwdrivers.

David Zeller problem is the rest of the blade is still poking out, so while stripping you're not focusing on the main edge. The side walls aren't that useful as they're much wider than most insulation. This feature works better on slide out blades but most sparkies don't use it.

I work in construction and use my knife everyday and the belt clip on all Milwaukee's is absolute junk, why they choose to keep using that cheap wire clip just to save a few cents in production costs is beyond stupid, not having multiple extra blade storage is another big downfall of this model, the main purpose of the tool is to used as a knife so enhancing that capability would be far more useful, most of the other features of this model are there for marketing and sales not actual practicality, I've gone through several of the Fastback models and they are good knives but they fall short on some key components that for a tradesman just doesn't cut it, all the little extra features are nothing more than sales gimmicks that take away from the main purpose of the tool.

I have a 20' extension ladder that has a built-in foldout box cutter, screwdriver, hacksaw and hammer. All the other functions except for the ladder is pretty much useless but who cares. Being a plumber and having many different hand tools I can't think of one instance I would use a screwdriver attached to a utility knife. When designing these idiotic tools they might want to ask those who use tools on a regular basis. Oh another thing a multitool like the leatherman isn't a tool at all.

Well, I can assure I use real tools. I have brands from Hilti, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Knipex, Klein , Lincoln, Miller, Hypertherm, and everything in between. The usefulness of a multi tool cannot be overstated. I use my Leatherman every single day, and have for years. Regardless of what your personal opinion is, the Leatherman Surge is most definitely a tool. I’m not sure what made you so salty. This particular tool you are referring to is quite coveted by drywall installers and electricians especially. It saves him from having to go back to the tool bag or toolbox 50 times a day. So yes it is a tool. Nobody is saying that it is on the level with Greenlee or Klein, but it is a useful tool nonetheless.

@@txtoolcrib My reply was based on a real human male not the half man half woman things of this world. I have many tools and know how to use each one correctly but the so-called "men" of this world buy and collect tools as a prop. I've seen this countless times when doing plumbing repairs in homes the same tools I'm using in mint condition just sitting as if they're on display. They do a poor impression acting like they're real men but a real man wouldn't buy tools he never intended to use. They drive big trucks with expensive mud tires and never even go off road. A lot of them are into "survival" and have bugout bags with MRE's, knives, lifestraws and other gear incase to shit goes down. In truth the only survival they will need to do is long lines at Walmart or heavy traffic. Hell they even glue on fake facial hair. So when I say I can't see any occasion I would use a screwdriver attached to a utility knife that's coming from a real human man but it would probably be the perfect prop for a thing that acts like it's a man.

Lol, you’re hilarious. The fact that you feel the need to tell me what a “man” you are leads one to believe you may be overcompensating for something. Why are you so angry? It’s clearly evident in your tone. Does it make you feel like a real man to berate people based on your perception of what constitutes being a man? Here is a news flash for you, the world does not resolve around you, or your opinions. Clearly you are angry about something, something that runs much deeper than tools. Perhaps you should talk to somebody about what is truly bothering you. I wish you the best, and I hope you find some kind of happiness in your life. Because life is way to short to spend being angry at the world.

Drama queen much? It's a great kitchen drawer convenience item for those of us who don't have anything to prove. Btw, don't look now but there are some kids on your lawn. You should probably go yell at them.

Are you kidding me? A waste blade knife? Why?

Are you a tradesman?

@@txtoolcrib No, I am a collector and knife enthusiast. The youtube algorithm somehow led me to this video. I didn't even know that there really were folders with throw-away blades. IMHO it looks very unstable, impractical and unsightly, but that's just my unimportant opinion.
@txtoolcrib3 жыл бұрын
Well this certainly not something meant for collectors, this is a time saving tool for moderate tasks on job sites. Places where you don’t want to abuse a $300 folder. Utility knives are a quite valuable and necessary tool for tradesmen, especially electricians. So I understand your criticism, but I think it is completely unwarranted.
