I'm giving 3 thumbs up to the stuff in this video. Milwaukee's Rotary Tool seems to work as expected. Dremel's quick connect cut-off wheels work good and so dose the cheep carbide burr set.

I had the battery powered dremel and I had the same problem with the battery. When I saw the M-12 version I figured it would most likely be a step up from what I had. So far, it has worked well for me with no issues. I hope it keeps chooching along for years to come.

I contemplated a battery powered Dremel but I went with a corded one. Considering how seldom I use it, that I don't want the battery to be dead when I need it and that I don't need the mobility, I think corded is the way to go for this type of tool.

Couple of things I've learned about this tool from other videos-I'm pretty sure a 2.0 battery only lasts around 6-7 minutes with this. Also, there's also a dremel quick change head for the bits themselves. You just take off the nut and collet and screw that one on and you don't need a wrench.

I’ve avoided getting one. Getting a lot of Dremel-type work done with my DCS438. Love that thing! Was blindly cutting a line to an under-sink water heater last week where I had to reach around behind (couldn’t see). Thought I was going through the tubing when I was actually going right through the fitting! Still cut through like butter. :)

You go to use it and the battery's dead - that's why I use AC or air tools, they may not be as handy as cordless, but they work when I need them for as long as I need them. If I did mobile work that would probably be very different, although I could have AC and air in the van.

Those quick-change Dremel discs are great. I've been using them for years. One caveat is that after a lot of use, the gold-colored collar that you pull back will get worn down from the vibration. I think it might be just aluminum, not sure. Mine's lasted a few years, but if you use it heavily, it might wear out quicker. Think of it as a long-term consumable and you'll be fine. It won't let go or wear out suddenly, you'll just notice the disc vibrating more. And as long as you're not reefing on hardened steel all the time, the discs have decent life. And they're easy AF to change. I lost too damn many of those little screws that hold the discs on, don't have to worry about that again. Not sure if I need the Milwaukee tool yet, I'm never far from an outlet so I'll hang on to my corded Dremel for now. Looks like a nice tool should someone need something like that though.

Compared to a cut off blade on a 5 inch grinder, a dremel blade coming apart is just an annoyance, assuming it doesn't lodge in your eyeball. Eye pro on, and it's a reasonably safe tool, especially compared to handheld angle grinders.

just last week, i'm cutting off 3" worth of 1&1/2"x0.12"steel pipe with a 5" cutoff wheel. as the end of one of the pipes cut through, it started to fall downwards, and hit the wheel. in the fraction of a second it was in contact with the pipe, it cut a line 1/8" deep in the bit of pipe, and then launched it 10 yards behind where i was standing. the wheel itself held up reasonably well, not useable, but certainly destroyed, leaving a 2" gash across the circumference of the wheel, but not completely shattering, i'm just glad my head wasn't in the pathway of the flying pipe, and it didnt hit the car i was working on. (i'm just here to fit parts man, i hate paying for other ppls paint jobs). even on a rotary tool, even if yr wearing safety glasses, having your face sprayed with ceramic shrapnel is not fun. cutoff tools need supreme respect and care.

The only issue i have with my cordless Dremel is that battery life. Full charge got me around 6 minutes of work. I only really use or for cutting plastic too, rarely though metal. That being said, they make so many cool attachments for them. For example, there a drill press attachment that you put your Dremel in and it functions like a small drill press. If i had known Milwaukee made one of these i probably would of just gotten that. Its nice when all your tools are using a the same batteries.

Nice review. I think you missed some enuendos (enuendi?). This looks like it might work with my dremmel flex extension shaft. Maybe. Looking at your cutting demo reminds me that I need to recut the cross hatch grooves in a couple of ancient vices that I picked up at an estate sale. I could prolly drill out/extract the old screws, but it might be easier with the rotory. These things have got to be from the 1940-50s.

I like AvE’s tool review videos because he disassembles them and shows us how well or how cheaply they’re built on the inside. I don’t like his tool review videos because he demonstrates them on totally unrealistic tasks. So, I’ll keep watching his *and yours* to get the best of both worlds. I had the same experience with the battery powered Dremel. Give me a half day’s warning so I can charge both battery packs, or make sure there’s an outlet so I can use the corded model. Other than that they’re tougher than they look. I mean they are really strictly intended to be home gamer hobby tools, not designed to be banged around on a job site. They’re kinda like that skinny guy with soft hands who turns out to be a machine. At least that’s my experience with Dremels.

I actually bought this to cut out my automatic pilot bushing on my 300zx as it’s a steel on steel bushing with almost no lip to attach a slide hammer too and it was rust welded in so badly my slide hammer wouldn’t budge it. To make a long story short those three little metal pins that hold the cutting wheel in place all sheared off and fell out of the tool all bent and shit, I ended up returning it and using my POS 10 year old corded dremel where the motor stalls if you press with more than 5lbs of force. It may have taken like an hour longer but at least the tool didn’t break. Idk maybe I was just using it wrong but Thank god for Home Depot no questions asked returns.

The less ass you put behind the tool, the longer the battery (and cutting disc) will last. From what I can see you are applying too much load to the tool. Ease up a bit and let the tool's spinning do the work of cutting. Every time you bind it is a chance to shatter the disc

I use mine often. The only thing I wish it was offered in a fuel version. Mine has to be started on a higher speed then slowed down or it will just hum and she'll let the smoke out.

Not a fan of the Milwaukee rotary tool. Mine died, because I think the mosfet cooked itself. All the electronics aren't replaceable either, all buried under goop. Same thing happened to the one AvE's channel did a review of. Maybe it's been upgraded since then, but I'm sticking to the corded tool for now.

I have an old Dremel 3200 that i use infrequently for smol tasks. (corded) When i first got it, ofc i opened it up :D and thought "That's an over designed fan/air flow design". I can't remember now how it looked like, it was that long ago. It gets Waaaarm and i barely run it past 1/4 speed on smol precision tasks, that last for 15-20+ minutes continues use. And it still exhausts a LOT of air, even at the low-end of rpm. Thank you for the comment, cos potted electronics in these rotary tolls would be a bane that i didn't think of.

@@dangerous8333 all electric tools are like that. The user manuals always say not to run on low speed for extended periods because it may overheat. Just like an air cooled engine.

That tool does not like a weak battery. I have one old battery that works fine in the drill but the rotary tool hates it.
