There is a lot of data out there that shows tasers result in fewer injuries than using physical force. Most police are not well trained in grappling. This means injuries to the suspect will be much more likely, as they cannot control their movements to induce pain without injury. Any situation where the suspect resists will have much higher rates of injury than ones where the suspect complies. Mr. Sterling doesn't realize it, but he did multiple things to escalate throughout the encounter. In the end, his refusal to remove his hands from his pockets was the proximate cause of his tasering.

Frunk You do realize, however, that the officer had no right to approach Brown, ask for ID, and put his hands on him, right? If Brown were committing a crime, then sure, but there was no crime being committed. So by doing those 3 things, the officer is the one that actually escalated the situation. He unlawfully detained Brown, and Brown still had the decency to present his identification, even though he would have been within his legal right to deny the officer's request. And then the officer had the audacity to accuse Brown of handing him a fake ID. For what purpose did he do that other than to escalate the situation even further? If the cop were a true professional (which he should be considering he's on the job), he would have written out a ticket while Brown was still in the store, and placed said ticket on Brown's car's windshield. He didn't though. He was looking to stir something up, and he did just that. There is no justification for the way Brown was treated. I get it though. You don't like black people and feel they should obey every demand, even if the person barking orders is 100% in the wrong.
