MiMa's cover of Visage - Fade To Grey

Here's my cover of this famous and immortal 80ies piece of music. As my habit, all the song is done by ear all by myself, keyboard parts all played by hands and drum track built with ModPlug Tracker. Then I muted the parts which I wanted to play on synths. Unfortunately the vocal part is missing, but this allows you to sing along the music if you want :-)

After 40 years this piece has remained in my mind in the smallest details and it is incredible how 70/80 music has this power ....tank

Because, talking about pop/mainstream music, at that times it was good and interesting to the ear. Today is Cmaj scale harmonizations for the most part, always the same rythm styles with little to no variations at all, crappy singers which can't sing in tune without an external aid (autotune anyone?), etc. In 40 years music from the XX century will be still remembered. Today's most probably not. Music reflects society, especially pop music, so no surprise that today's one, besides some exceptions, is generally crap. Just to be clear, good music is still produced, not everything that is made today is crap. But more in the indie/experimental scene, and you have to find it as you won't hear it in radios.

@@davidparkland4681That would difficult. The disappearance of key / tempo changes, the death of melody and always auto tuned vocals have brought music where it is today. Those of us that remember the 80s, find today’s music kinda dull in comparison and I think the kids today don’t know any different. Very occasionally something interesting comes along but we’ve had whole genres of music simply die away since the 90s… 😞

Astonishing! I didn't expect this song to have such an influence, but after reading its release date (1980) it surely defined the 80's sound.

Actually, Giorgo Moroder, the Father of Disco, and Kraftwerk, (both hailing from Germany) were arguably the real pioneers of synth pop, all the way back in the mid 70's. But electronic keyboards go bavk as far as the late 50's early 60's. However, sampling and sequencing didn't come along until the mid 70's, and it was all analogue, and tape loops. No digital wizardry back then.

There are certainly different styles of the 80s. Everyone has their place. I'm only talking about the fact that this masterpiece was the initial spark for later pop music because it is the first song of this genre that became known worldwide. he combines melancholy music with electronic music and influenced the pop music of the 80s significantly. Clearly Visage with Midge Ure was not only electronic but they created the new romantic sound that was way ahead of its time and which many bands still drew on into the late 80s.

Kraftwerk were way more pioneering but Visage certainly had an ear for unique catchy tunes, this being a pop hit helped.

Wellbuggerme it was Chris Payne who composed it back in 1976 as a love song Billy Currie used an ARP Odyssey for the strings violin pizzicato Chris did the main riff which was a Polymoog synth and Midge produced it
