Mimo basically took Duolingo’s exact model of gamifying fundamental concepts, and then gradually transitioning from assembling building blocks to building lines and eventually complete codes from scratch. The app still needs to be developed a lot, but one very simple thing they could do is something like how you can test in to a higher level like in Duo. That way someone who already have unlimited understanding of code, and has maybe written some before doesn’t have to start at the very basic stuff for me, I work a blue-collar job, but would love to transition to a remote career in tech. I have absolutely no background in code whatsoever, but this allows me to develop my knowledge of python whenever I have some downtime on a job site. Right this second, I’m not trying to become a programmer. But I do want to have a phone number for understanding and working knowledge of python and this has allowed me to do that.

Does the coding in mimo become complex or does it stay at a beginner level?
@jenabobenabananafanafofena2 жыл бұрын
When I took Java programming in college, it felt like my brain couldn’t shift gears and grab ahold of the logic. It was like banging my head against a wall. I downloaded Mimo to prove to myself that my brain is capable, it just needs a different learning approach. I don’t expect it to make a coder out of me but it at least makes coding feel less intimidating.

from an app designer perspective: while an encouragement for throwing down cash, using hearts is also a means of stopping users from smashing out the content as fast as possible, meaning they have an incentive to come back to it after the first day. it's in the app's interests as people retain more info if they learn in shorter bursts - if you're chewing through hearts and making lots of mistakes on something, you've probably hit your capacity for the study sesh and could benefit from taking a step back. it's the app's way of enforcing that. it also means people have use for it past the first day! user retention is a big deal, and burning through content too fast is a threat to that.

I feel like this app has been building pattern matching pathways toward webdev similar to Rosetta Stone with languages, I'm on my first month using the app and I'm nearly through all the basic lessons, I haven't done most of the projects but this to me builds a good foundation to an entry level web development position. By playing with the playground you can take the lessons you've learned and apply practical application, either making a copy of another site or building something new. I think the lessons should have a basic overview at the start defining the terms that will be used.
@anarosaamorim38513 жыл бұрын
I don’t think anyone who uses Mimo is expecting to be a pro, just by doing all the lessons and projects. Mimo is just a good way to start, to get a friendly approach to coding. If someone is getting serious, of course he or she will need to dive deeper. But for kids, teens and people from non-tech, non-science backgrounds, Mimo is an excellent option. I decided to learn something about coding just because I’d like to learn to code scripts for some tasks. It’s just a hobby for me. No intention to become a software engineer. Mimo was just a way to get started. And it’s great for that.

Believe it or not, some things I was taught in €4k worth of training were better explained on Mimo. I'm a slow learner so I like that I get to choose my own pace. The Web Development course is longer than I though it would be - I still have 14% to go and I have a 117-day streak. I also completed the SoloLearn JS course and that one is way shorter. I love the bullet-sized lessons because they allow me to do a quick lesson on days I am very busy. All in all, I think t's a good foundation to keep building things on, but devs must always keep learning, so what's new? I hate that I can't use it on my laptop, though.

This review sucks. Not a legitimate critique on mim0 when you’re too cheap to purchase the full version. Don’t insult intelligent people by referring to your previous review either. Not credible. I’ll do a review when I finish-and I’ll give it a thumbs down, and then, a conditional thumbs up-and say how it’s great for “the beginners and those who know nothing”-on my update while controlling every betraying muscle in my face, testifying to my blatant lack of knowledge and experience with the app. Not.
