My Min Pin is an awesome companion, he understands everything we say. I rescued him six years ago, he was dirty , hungary and in need of some desperate TLC. I named my pup BUDDY .

You are an excellent dog trainer! I suspect starting young, using behavior chaining and positive reinforcement. I love my Min Pin, but he doesn’t have that repertoire of tricks. I love the “bang” performance!

Man this reminds me so much of my little girl min pin, well she’s not little anymore. She is 12 years old and has had diabetes for the past two years. She is overweight and has one eye removed ands he cannot see at all out of the other eye. Oh and she is going deaf now too. I miss the days when I could play with her like this, but no matter how old or disabled she becomes, she will always be my sweet little baby girl!

My minipin/chihuahua was age 4 when I adopted him and housebroken was the only training I could tell he'd had, but he's always been well-behaved. He's not playful or cuddly, very independent and is happy as long as he can follow his daily schedule, which includes meals and snacks on time, or he gets annoyed. Barking is part of his routine every day. whether there's anything to bark at or not but, luckily, he's not a whiner. Forget walking him on a leash, though. I quit trying after he pulled my arm out of joint, he is very strong.Even tried a stroller, which is fine until we meet another dog, and he's out of it in a flash. He's nobody's fool, a great little pal, loyal and protective of the hand that feeds him!

Haha, remind me a lot of Gio when he was about the same age, the walks were always a fight but he is calm down so much after having a kid in our home. Sounds like a great dog the way you've described.

I adopted a minpin chi mix last month but i think he is full minpin, how can i tell if he is mixed with chi? He has alot of behavior issues that im working on but he is very cuddely and loyal and can jump like a reindeer, he so cute but im struggelung to get him to be a good doggy.

@@tjones5399 , There are a few hints I suggest, one being size, a minipin is likely to be taller & leaner than a chihuahua & the other might be to check the black & brown markings of each breed the AKA gives. My chi-minipin has all the markings of a purebred mini, but his face structure favors chihuahua. Another might be to research the personalities of each breed to compare with your own. minipin. If you didn't raise from puppy & got yours from a previous owner, as I did, then you also have to consider what training & habits were already instilled in him/her. If my minipin-chi is any example, I found him to not have learned any forms of playing, such as chasing ball, but very much the "watchdog," fully aware of what's going on around him & protective of "his" territory. He also seemed to have been used to his freedom to run & explore outside as I've found him to be impossible to walk on a leash on a city street. So previous ownership is an important element, bc once a behavior is allowed or instilled, it's difficult & unlikely to change, as this breed is very strong-minded & adheres to a routine/habits once formed. As I say, I'm sharing just my own experience, but hopefully it may help you some or give you some ideas. 😊

They are really hyper and dart. They need lots of protection and play. Most beautiful breed and I love their energy bc I’m hyper too. Keeps me really active and my dog is my life.

My min pin is obsessed with her tiny tennis ball. Stakes it every where! Bounces it and catches. Has made up numerous games with it. Plays with it on the stairs like a slinky. I could write a book on all the things she does with it.

I have a red min pin, she is excellent at alerting me of any intruders and is also incredibly intelligent, robust and a great vermin exterminator. She is over 10 yet still displays the same vigour and energy that she had when she was younger, a real courageous, loyal and unstoppable pocket dynamo.

Gio loves to play fetch. Apart from using treats to reinforce tricks, we throw him the tennis ball every time he does a trick right (In the "stand" trick, my brother is holding the tennis ball which he is waiting for to be thrown). I like being outdoors and throwing him the ball, so its a win-win situation :)

by using a treat to get him to lie on his side. slowly incorporate the bang as the dog is in the process of lying on his side. i would not try to roll the dog over to lie on his side. let the dog try to learn this on its own.

Start real low to the ground and work your way up little by little I'm sure your six years old now seven min pin will handle it no problem they are smart dogs👍

Nothing in life is given, everything is earned. There were a lot of failures before success. Keep at it, every training session is one step closer to getting the trick. Hope you don’t get discouraged, keep it up and good luck!

that is how old gio was when i started training him. guide your dog through the movements with lots of praise and treats!

My min pin is 5yrs and only had her 3mo and she already knows stand, shake, down, heel, leave it, off, come, and stay. I'll admit so far stay was the hardest but they're very intelligent dogs! Surprisingly this min pin has been easier and more eager to train than even my past lab/dalmatian mix. And I'm just a basic obedience trainer. I've found this little one to be amazingly eager to please and loyal! Wonderful combinations for training!
