Min woo Hyun is an incredible singer. Such style, expressiveness, gorgeous voice, great projection and strength, wonderful stage presence, and it doesn’t hurt that he is handsome. I’m pushing 80 years old and am a professional musician pianist, organist, church choir choral director and was accompanist for our local Little Theater for many musical productions. Im in N.C. USA and have loved KDramas and Korean singers on KZbin enjoying all the awesome talent in Korea. Netflix now thinks I’m Korean. So I’m saving up to visit Korea.

The song is amazing because they suicide to meet after they died. Kim U-jin and Shin Yun Deok, the first korean soprano...their love stories are beautiful and painful. Their stories became a legend after the death song movie at 1991. I cried because of the song's history.

The korean version was the original. Waves of Danube was the first remake (it had a few remakes) from what I remember.

I too just watched Hymn of Death. That 3 hour drama was absolutely stunning, woeful, intelligently written, well cast, dramatic, tragic and heartbreaking. A true depiction of the times. I love Lee Jong Suk, but he could not have sung this song as well as Min Woo Hyuk. Min Woo Hyuk sang this song with such conviction and passion and tragedy. I cried the whole time. Just beautiful. A lot of comments mention the Lee Jong Suk drama, but actually, the individual he is enacting here was played by Kang Haneul in a movie. One of the melodies he sang, however, the first two lines sounded a lot like the Ilonggo lullaby "Ili Ili Tulog Anay." Now I'm kicking myself in the rear for not watching him last week when I was in Seoul, either as the guest of Jeon Dong Suk (Interpark ran out of foreign ticket reservations for October 5th, so I ended up watching Kai in "Ben-Hur" on the night of October 5th. Just got lucky when I was able to get the last reservation for Jeon Dong Suk's October 4th concert.) or as Ben-Hur... I watched two out of the four actors of Ben-Hur. I could have stayed for the next performance on October 6th after watching Park Eun Tae, but I was already very exhausted and had to catch an early morning flight back to the U.S.A the next day. 😥
