Really interesting analysis - obviously plenty of room for discussion. I'm curious why you leave off Special Teams. In the Chiefs victory over the Texans, special teams played a huge role. In fact, if you look at the Chiefs over the last three years, they've been winning a lot of close games with a special teams play (big kickoff return, blocked field goal, long field goal, etc...).
@TomReichner10 күн бұрын
I was wondering that too. Perhaps it is because special teams play is so difficult to assess. On special teams, terrible plays and great plays are often viewed more as flukes, rather than as a result of talent, effort, or coaching. If this is indeed true, then one can't simply use recent past performance to determine the actual strength or weakness of these units.

@dlb1841 I'm not saying Hurts and Goff are bad QBs, I put most nfl starting QBs in that Hurts/Goff tier including Dak, Tua, TLaw, and even Herbert and Stroud for now. I classify that tier as QBs that are likely playoff teams if you have at least 1 of either solid supporting cast, good defense, or good offensive scheme, and likely contenders if you have 2 or more. However, the gap between that tier and the top/elite tier is pretty big as that next tier is QBs that regardless of everything else, you feel like you're a playoff team and even possible contenders. This includes guys like Lamar, Josh Allen, Mahomes, and as of right now, Jayden Daniels.

How is Mina underrated? I constantly and continually see her rated at the very top of NFL media analysts. So how can someone who is universally considered to be one of the best NFL analysts in the world be underrated? That's like saying that Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady are underrated.
@dannyalexander22418 күн бұрын
@ what I should have said was that Mina is better at her job than Molly, Joy, Cynthia, and Jamie. She’s accurate in her predictions and breaks down the game, plays, and player to player matchups way better than any of those people I mentioned above. But she’s not front and center on any shows….and to be honest deserves her own broadcast/ network show. She should be in the spotlight. Do you think Mina has gone as far as she wants to make it in this business? I’m betting she doesn’t feel that way at all. The reason she hasn’t made it to the very top of sports journalism isn’t because she doesn’t have the insight and talent… it’s because she is underrated, under appreciated, and under valued.
@TomReichner7 күн бұрын
@ Mina has a completely different job than Joy, Molly, Jamie, and Cynthia. Three of them are just show hosts, and Cynthia is just a statistical specialist. None of them do any real "heavy lifting", nor are they asked to in the roles that they fill. Mina's has a very different, and much bigger, job than any of them. In fact, one can't really compare what she does to what any of them do. That would be like saying that a company's CFO does a better job than any of it's salespeople.
@dannyalexander22417 күн бұрын
@ they are all football analysts. One of them is far more entertaining and accurate than the others… Cynthia makes predictions, and so does Mina. Joy, Molly, and Jamie also make predictions… and most of the time they are wrong. Joy gets it right occasionally on certain teams, and she has an equal role to what shady, Acho, and Chase have. All I’m saying is she is absolutely 100% better at what all of them do. Apparently you disagree. That’s fine.
@TomReichner7 күн бұрын
@@dannyalexander2241 I agree that Mina is way better than any of the people you compared her to. But she isn't really comparable to them because she has such a greater role. @shaobaijiang857310 күн бұрын
Thanks, Mina. I don't have too much opinion about the ranking. But the grading system is kinda unbalanced. The offense has total of 20 points and defense has 8 points which means offense has significant more weight than defense. And everybody ignores the special team, but it will always matter in the most important moment
@TomReichner10 күн бұрын
I agree with you. It is odd that the offensive positions are broken down into more categories than the defense positions, yet that is not accounted for in the value given to each category. If defense is simply categorized into "Pass Defense" and "Run Defense", without any specific positions being named, then the offense should likewise be categorized only by "Pass Offense" and "Run Offense". Offense does NOT factor into winning or losing more than defense does, so they should be weighted equally.
@philibusters239 күн бұрын
Plus it does not match results. The Commanders were 5th in scoring and 6th in yards during the regular season and the Chiefs wither 14th and 16th in those categories. If you include the playoffs the discrepancies slightly grow. Yet she has the Chiefs higher in every offensive category than the Commanders and has the Chiefs first in coaching and the Commanders last in coaching. By contrast with defense she used pass defense and run defense which she use stats for. If she does that for the offenses the Commanders substantially benefit as they have the second best offense (behind the Bills of the four), yet generated the least offensive points on her chart.

As a Commanders homer, of course I feel we should have been ranked higher in a few categories. Jayden Daniels has been playing lights out, so I disagree with ranking him 3rd... I feel he's played every bit as good as Allen or Mahomes. I understand the difficulty in ranking the WR/TE groups. While I think we deserve better, its hard to argue. RBs? Our running offense is unconventional b/c Jayden is our leading rusher as well as being our QB. So, again, I struggle to argue with her ranking. Our defense *is* the bottom of the Final Four. I feel our coaching staff is being underrated as well, but again, I don't have a solid argument for rating them higher other than the combination of the turnaround & that so much of what has been accomplished this year is getting the team to play "above themselves".... Anyway, I've just used a lot of words to disagree with the QB ranking and to say that I otherwise enjoyed the video! LOL

I guess Daniel’s has more to prove even tho this was supposed to be reflective of how they are playing right now. She didn’t do that. No way Mahomes is outplaying Daniels at this point. Back one again, and this time not for the renegade master... I am, obviously terrified about people saying nice things about the Bills...as I've obviously been hurt before!
We are talking about the same Kansas City offence that hasn't put up over 30 points a single time this season right? Ahead of the Commanders offence that was top 5 through the regular season and is the top offence in the postseason in yards/g and points/g? The Commanders that have had zero turnovers and only one punt across two games? And yet you have the Commanders so far off the pace of all the others that the gap between them and 3rd place is almost the same as between 3rd and 1st. I know the Bucs and Lions weren't the two best defences in the playoffs, but they've been doing it all season. They've scored 40+ points four times this season. The last time they played (a fully healthy) Eagles defence they put up 36 points on them. Jayden threw for 5 TD passes that game. No other QB has thrown for more than 2 against the Eagles this year. And what's the rationale for Eagles having the best WR score? It feels like it undermines the QB scores if you give the least productive WR room such high scores - what is it trying to say? Only the Bears, Patriots, and Panthers had fewer passing yards in the regular season, and in the postseason they're doing way worse even than that at 93 receiving yards per game (including TEs and RBs too...), obviously worse than everyone else left. I'm not sure how you marry giving the Eagles the highest WR score when they are so thoroughly unproductive. Yes AJ and Smith are individually talented but if the QB/scheme/coach don't use them, then on what basis are they the best? If you're basing this on what you *expect* to happen, or just gut feeling, sure, but saying the Commanders are the worst offence remaining, and by a huge margin, is completely at odds with reality.
@ZachNguyen-vp7nz9 күн бұрын
These are roster power ranks. They aren’t meant to be taken literally. You’ll have a hard time convincing me that McLaurin/Zaccheus/Brown are better than Brown/Smith/Dotson. Also for the record if I was using stats I would have the Commanders as the 3rd, possibly 2nd best offense remaining.

And.... even if this analysis is spot on for "talent"....none of it matters because it's going to come down to the play on the field. Who makes the most mistakes. Who creates turnovers. I mean this is really interesting! I usually do this when deciding between two products or brands. But if you remove the QB category to end up with a score for each team as a whole, you have: KC 15 BUF 15 WSH 8 PHI 22 Which means all 3 teams in this round are at least twice as good as Washington (Phi almost 3 times) and yet here we are! Doesn't that say something about your QB valuations?? That only goes to show you that you had QB rankings wrong and that Daniels is really the best of all 4 remaining QB's.

On WR/TE's I gave Buf, Wash, and KC a tie. That said, if I had to put them in order it would go Buff (they have the most good players with Cooper, Kalir, Samuels, Knox, Kincaid, then have the Commanders and Chiefs in a tie, or slight edge to Commanders. Mina gives Kelce a lot of credit as she cites him as the reason for putting KC #2. Giving Mahomes that benefit of the doubt makes sense, he is still in his prime so giving him credit in a down year makes sense. Kelce is 35. He is what he is now which is like the 8th best TE which is nice but it cannot carry a unit. He is really even significantly better than Ertz or Kincaid. For example he had 823 yards on 139 targets during the regular season while Ertz had 654 yards on 96 targets. Ertz was .9 yards better per target 6.8 vs. 5.9. It feels like Kelce is a bit of a volume guy like a shooter in the NBA who averages 22 ppg on 40% shooting with 28% 3 point shooting. That is nice, but are you really good or just getting a lot of usage. Her other big miss in my opinion is on coaching. I feel like the combo of Quinn and Kliff is up there. I put them right up there with the Chiefs. I have no problem giving the Chiefs. I do have a problem giving the Bills the nod over them. And I have a bigger problem putting the Eagles over them. Do we really think Joe Brady is as good as Kliff Kingsbury? They put similar stats despite that fact that Mina has them having the better QB, RB, O-Line, and equal WR/TE's. Something has to give with her offensive rankings. For example, this Wash offense was quite a bit better than the Chiefs. They were 5th in scoring offense and 6th in yards while the Chiefs were 14th and 16th in those categoies yet she has the Chiefs being better than the Commanders in every single offense category (QB, RB, WR/TEs, O-Line) and coaching (which includes OC, but not limited to OC). Plus I feel like she is conflating being influential with being great. Fangio was pretty mid last year in Miami. His defenses in Denver were good but not elite. His system is very influential, but he is not a Bill Belichick type mind in my opinion. He is like a Dan Quinn level DC. Now his system is way more influential and when it was brand new and offenses had not adjusted to it, it was fantastic, but the Eagles have the most talented Defensive roster in the league and that is why they are good in my opinion. Plus even if you thing Fangio is great, would Dan over Nick and Kliff over Kellan make up for that?

Based on Mina's scores, Washington has truly done it with smoke and mirrors. Daniels has been the best QB in the playoffs yet he is third. A coach with obviously less talent has his team in the NFC championship game comes in last. The other three teams have better players but they are not twice as good as Washington.

Special teams are legit. We would be first in your ranking imo. That with coaching staff. I also believe experience is a factor. Also we are downplaying Mahomes too much. Overall #ChiefsKingdom

Rank them all you want. It wouldn't have done the Lions or the Bucs any good either.

As a Bills fan, can we just stop with the bad juju here lol. Mahomes should get the top points, feels a bit disrespectful. I love Josh. He's my guy, my favorite QB in the league, I ride or die with him. But until we get over this hump and achieve the ultimate goal, nothing else matters. No matter the justification or reasoning. Let's stop giving the guy and the Chiefs bulletin board material, at least until Monday. Thanks Mina!

Is Vic Fangio really that good? I know he the father of teh Fangio style defense that has been very influential in the NFL, so his legacy is great. But last year he struggled with the Dolphins. This year the Eagles defense is fantastic but they probably have the most talented defensive roster in football with Brandon Graham (I know he is injured), Jalen Carter, Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Jordan Davis, Zach Baun, Nkobe Dean, CJ Gardner Johnson, Reed Blakenship, Cooper Dejean, Darius Slay, a Quinyon Mitchell, and Isaiah Rodgers. I don't think there is another defense in the NFL with that much across the board talent.

And Vic and Stout. It's an easy take to hate on Nick but this is still the national media who don't really know, despite Mina being the best of em all.

These episodes are hilarious. Chiefs have 2 All Pros on the O-line, Humphrey and Thuney, and a guy, Trey Smith, who is about to make a lot of money but "they have big issues". Chiefs have All Pro Chris Jones on D-line and Karlaftis just had 3 sacks against Texans. Left out Special Teams where the Chiefs have the best kicker, Butker, left in the playoffs and a 63 yard kickoff return and a blocked field goal. Dave Toub is one of the best special team coaches in the league and Super Bowl 57 turned on a long punt return. It's basically making a subjective take appear to be objective. Now, I do think the Bills can win in Arrowhead and they probably have as good a shot going into this game as they had last year playing at home. Also, I would definitely put the Bills and Chiefs ahead of Philly who I believe is more evenly matched to the Commanders. I guess we will know after this Sunday.

Your scoring was broken after the first minute, with your QB rating. Josh Allen is a better playoff QB than Patrick Mahomes? What?!?!? In what universe?
