We all know the Spaniards had cannon and the harquebus with them , but they also had them in very few numbers not to mention how slow they were to reload. When thousands of Indian warriors came rushing at you from all sides , after that first arquebus shot , there was no time to reload for a second. I'm sure the Spanish rapier sword had more to do in these conquests than we give it credit for.

True. I bet 90% of the mortality on the native side was from good old fashioned puncture wounds, blood loss from spears and swords. You couldn’t get a reload off in a melee like that.

I agree. Guerrero’s choice was not some noble resistance to “colonial oppression”, it was a merely pragmatic decision - what he deemed to be the most viable option for his circumstances, given that he was now married and had children within the Mayan tribe.

@@wayneorellana2549 Mayans were on the Yucatán peninsula. Aztecs were not. They Coexisted during the same time but the Maya was an earlier civilization and was on the decline by the time the Spanish got there.
