I've heard that if we compare Exploratory Astronomy to the historical exploration of the Earth, we're in the "age" of Magellan, that is with a lot the outlines known but our knowledge having large gaps on the map that many busy folks are working their tails off to fill in... We may never map all of the Milky Way, but then we still have huge parts of the Earth we have barely a clue about... And to forestall any incredulous protestations to the contrary in this time of satellite mapping and high technology just go look up the percentage of the ocean floor we've actually explored. It's quite small, really... It just means that there are more than one "final frontiers". Thanks S W.

@charlesachurch72652 жыл бұрын

@brine_9092 жыл бұрын
You only need 1 telescope to do this, you just need to wait for the telescope to orbit the sun and take 1 picture from each end of its orbit. We actually do this all the time and any telescopes orbiting the earth can act as 2 telescopes 2 au apart.
@veggiet20092 жыл бұрын
@@brine_909 with with two telescopes you would be able to get precisely timed images, so things like fast radio bursts could be imaged stereographically if you capture the whole night sky every few days like Gaia does then you can get a image sequence of the entire night sky stereographically
