I run a recording studio for a 4 years right now and do audio profesionally longer than that and I wanted to have the best knowledge and skills on mixing and mastering that is possible to get. I have been waiting for three years until I finally got the place in his group and now, half through the course, I defenitely can say it totally worth the waiting time (which may not happen if you are lucky). So, if you get chance to have a room, do yourself a favor, apply asap! This awesome video shows only a tiny bit of what you can learn by Andrew in his course, but by those tiny bits, structured in one hybrid system, you will be light years forward in skill from who you are now! If you watch tutorials and tips on youtube, you will never learn how to mix, becuase one structured course makes it all clear, and hundreds of randomly picked vids just confuse you with integrated ads mostly. I'm currently enrolled in Andrew's class and the amount of useful information I've learned in the past couple of months is staggering. He really knows how to teach the fundamentals of audio engineering and turn that knowledge into real skills that I now use every day. He shows you the core idea of how something works, not just some plugin that makes something sounds "more" better. Andrew is a real strait shooter. He is really good at sorting through the "bullshit" and show you if something works or not and why. And if he doesn't know for sure (which is not very often at all), he will say so. I've gone to the 2nd best college audio program in California and I feel I learned wayyyy more in your class and at a much higher understanding. You teach how to approach the sound, and really understand your tools. But you also cover important factors in the production side, and you learn to recognize problems from the production side that will never give you A+ results wayy ahead of time. Ultimately, your class saves a HUGE learning curve. I started engineering 8 years ago, and i learned why certain things i did worked, solidified theories and processes i had, was made aware of mistakes I made, why I made them, and how to correct them. Im not even done with your class yet and i feel I have a much much much better understanding of sound 6 months later. I will most likely end up taking this class again because its THAT GOOD! If anyone's on the fence, do it. Sometimes he even gets carried away and accidentally makes 2hr long classes go for 3-4hrs, but straight dropping knowledge on you. You dont even realize its been that long and you get mindblowing information. Great instructor, definitely extremely knowledgeable in his field, information you wont even learn in school - period. At the very least, cut your learning curve by years vs. a college curriculum.

Я много где училась (консерватория, курсы звукорежиссуры в Украине, брала уроки у преподавателя Беркли и т.д.) и могу сказать, что Андрей действительно объясняет и преподает на совершенно новом уровне. Сейчас прохожу курсы и очень довольна результатом! Мне нравится насколько круто и глубоко он разбирается во всех темах связанных со звуком (такого уровня знаний я ещё не встречала). А главное - что может все это объяснить даже новичкам! Всегда есть возможность задать вопрос во время урока, а если что-то не понимаешь - Андрей находит новые отличные примеры, описывает ситуации (или рисует иллюстрации) благодаря которым все становится понятно. Если в Украине на тему EQ у нас на курсе было всего 45 минут (а дальше мы сами должны были разобраться), то на курсах Андрея мы несколько недель разбираем все возможные настройки EQ, модели, принципы частот и т.д. Больше всего мне нравится практическая часть, когда ты видишь как незначительные настройки одного инструмента могут изменить звучание всего микса в результате. Такой разбор даёт мне больше уверенности в моих действиях, а также экономит годы (!) личной практики (если бы училась всему сама) Ещё хочу выделить возможность проверки домашних заданий. Это нереально круто! Когда ты слышишь как один и той же трэк свели много студентов, то можешь увидеть пространство вариантов, поучиться на своих (и чужих ошибках), увидеть альтернативное решение какой-то проблемы. Теперь о курсе: Андрей объясняет всё от самых азов, типа что такое моно звук и стерео звук, (у меня даже на этом этапе было неправильное понимание) далее панорама, динамика, эквализация и ещё куча куча куча тем, параллельно студийный сэтап, железо, мониторинг, звукозапись .......... Много информации с курса абсолютно уникально её нигде не найдёшь!!! Раньше был на других курсах, смотрел в ютубе видеоролики кучу времени на это убил, получил зачастую неправильную, неполную и неструктурированную инф-ю которую трудно применить на практике. This is why you’ll hear things from experienced mix engineers like “the fader is your most important mixing tool”. It’s hard to understand that at first but you just cleanly laid out why that is true. You cut a freq, you just boosted all the others. You boost a frequency you just lowered all the others. For me this course is a blessing. Only 5 month into and I already feel like I can beat some of the "pros". I realize most of the productions nowadays are still amatuer mixes. I feel like I leave everybody behind me who doesn´t participate the course. It is no normal course that any random mixer can give you - you will understand if you participate. This video has affirmed to me what I was thinking about sweep eq. For years I cut all the frequencies that rattled,screeched,hummed at hi q and ended up with dead sounding tracks but I kept thinking am doing what X YT tutorial suggests. I came across a similar Joe Guilder video where he was discussing the same thing as you. How people think sweep eq works and how it actually works. Keep up the good work.

April 27th marks the first class I took with Andrew as well as the start of my transition into becoming a full time mix engineer, something I had truly never believed I was capable of. Before Andrews class I had no interest and no faith in my abilities as a mixing engineer. I had an amazing skill in producing muddy, flat and just generally shit mixes. No clarity or presence, drowned vocals, mushy guitars, flabby ass boring bass with the character of a wet rock. To say they were amateur might be giving them too much credit ahhah. I've been teaching and recording myself since early 2006 and in the short 4 months that I have been in the class I've seen marked improvements in the quality of my mixes that surpass almost everything I tried to teach myself. Songs I had recorded, mixed, mastered and released over a decade ago have been given new life and quite frankly I am embarrassed of what I've put on the market to date. The class is so good that I've pretty much stopped releasing anything all together until I finish the course in February. It is truly that drastic of a difference. In the information age that we all reside in it is very very VERY easy to get side tracked down a rabbit hole of misinformation and Andrew strives to absolutely destroy these myths. Andrew's experience reaches as far as being a 3rd party QA tester for beta releases of major brand name plugins to judge their sonic quality and has no time for confirmation biases. If your product does what it should, thumbs up from Andrew, if it doesn't "IT IS SO TOTAL BULLSHIT." It is SO refreshing to have a teacher that tells it how it is instead of the participation trophy Californian nightmare education system I have access to in the San Francisco Bay Area. BUT it should be known that Andrew is incredibly helpful and willing to explain things many times because he truly wants you to understand the subject at hand. I have a good chunk of music theory / history classes under my belt but don't have any formal recording training but I have a friend who went through a now defunct recording college and he is seriously impressed with what I have been learning. Even the videos of Andrew's that I have shown my friend have blown his mind. Particularly the video on using a side chain for a gate on a snare using a doubled track delayed by milliseconds as an alternative to the look ahead parameters found on modern gates. I've used this technique myself and its amazing. Finally an acoustically recorded snare that POPS without the annoying "TISH" of cymbals bleeding through on the tail of the note. The classes are done on Skype and take anywhere from 2-3 hours, but it never feels stale or boring. Andrew is constantly introducing new techniques, smashing old falsities and making the class comical and entertaining. Truly a master of analogies when it comes to describing the sonic characteristics of various audio production tools EX: Comparing the attack and release curves of a compressor to a submarines dive and rise to explain exponential and logarithmic compression curves. I've said it several times on many of Andrew's videos that I am blown away by the improvement of mix quality i'm getting, so much so that at the end of the class I intend to post a video showing how I mixed my songs 10 years ago compared to my mixes after completing Andrew's class. Talk is cheap but I'm willing to air out the dirty laundry that is the muddy mixes of this producers past. Take the trial class, get your ass handed to you then join the class and you'll thank me later. Promise.

Yo...this really is mind-blowing. Everything affects everything. This really makes sense. Not just in music but also in life. Since I'm attending Andrew Zeleno's course I realized it is more important to invest money in studying audio engineering because it is important to get knowledge and with the knowledge, your ears will get on a level that can be trusted in any situation. And Andrew Zeleno is really an A - Z teaching. We spend a few months on panorama and compressors, now we are digging into the EQ topic. I mean I heard one KZbinr the other day who was attending a very famous music school and few years after he finished school he was recording drums and he used the Gate and said this is the first time he is using it???? I mean, I was studying some courses before, but I don't think that people in the industry is analyzing also the system on how to teach students more efficiently. Andrew is doing exactly this, with no bullshit data and playing smart just to take your money and not to care about your results. He is checking your homework live, in front of all the other students, so you can also see the mistakes others made. I mean like 10 to 15 people homework checking sometimes lasting for 3,5 hours. I mean, this is the first time I'm hearing about this, the first time I'm attending this, and the first time I feel that I'm really understanding audio!!

This guy (Andrew Zelano) was the first person I ran across on KZbin who seemed to be no bs and actually said something useful, and with no marketing other than to tell you about his class, which is, in a word, the best class that has ever been taught by any living being in the entire history of the universe, and is also cheap as hell--I mean ridiculously cheap for all that you learn from him. He doesn't make it super simple to join his class--I mean it's easy, but it's not one click and credit card like most things on the internet. You have to email him and check out his class before joining. I believe this is to get rid of people who are not serious, but who knows. If you ARE serious and want to go to THE PLACE to learn audio engineering--I mean REALLY learn audio engineering, with NO IN-CLASS MARKETING or UPSALES or any of the other bs that everybody else is always doing these days, then this is THE CLASS TO TAKE. PERIOD. No nonsense, no generalized statements of how to do settings or what plugins or equipment to buy--just the real deal from a guy who loves this stuff more than you love your mama, down to the tiniest detail, with examination of alternative methods, which every scholar knows is mandatory (man-DOT-ary, as he would say in his charming, elegant accent) if you want to really learn a thing. But seriously, this isn't a magical method of making music sound good. If you want that I've got some beans and midwest beach property I'll sell you at a steal. This course is like a college course, minus all the testing and pressure that makes those kinda suck. This class is for learning exactly what is going on with audio at a technical, yet very understandable level, so you can make your own "method" if you want, although he does give you sort of a template, bit by bit throughout the course, for sort of a default method should you choose to just do it the lazy way. Bottom line: If you are serious about mixing, audio engineering or production, just do it. Now. Before it fills up and you have to wait another year. I had to wait about 6 months, and that really sucked since I had already attended the trial class and knew that I was missing pure wave brained genius delivered in a super cool, very easily understandable, KGB agent / Russian Mafia accent. But if I had just pulled the trigger when I first saw one of his videos, I would not have had to wait so long while ruining mix after mix, smashing tens of dollars of perfectly good equipment, and punching nuns in the face in frustration . . . Don't be stupid like me. Do it. Now. Or else you will end up kicking handy--uh, whatever the word is now--children in their faces while waiting in frustration, filled with regret and mourning for all the lost time at being an audio expert, which, like all past time, is time that you will never get back. You will want to hunt me down--no, not for that nun thing---to thank me. You know, for the totes amay-cray, long-printed, basic salty (which is hip lingo for "down to earth") advice. I promise. Don't do that. That's not cool, what's the matter with you? Oh, right. You haven't had the class yet, I remember how stupid I was before . . . .

Great again.For me people should know what freq instruments play on and where is their most power.If you cut out too much from it you make it thin and you lose detail and body of it.Then whole mix will sound empty and pointy. Andrew how long does the free trial last on free course for curiosity?

Free trial class is a regular class. I have 9 month course. They go one by one. 9 months. then 9 months. then 9 months etc. I connect you to one of the classes to attend just one class with students who are finishing the current course. So it can last from 1:30 to 2 hours. Anyway you start with sending me an email and I explain everything more properly in emails.

Yes. You can achieve essentially the same result for example, by boosting at 200Hz or cutting at 4k. There is an inter-relationship. Are you accounting additionally for upper harmonics affected by EQ of lower frequencies? Also, you are using the term "normalization" (which has a different established meaning) for "gain compensation". Might be confusing to some.

Most of the time I said, "I compensate volume". I think normalization is ok too. Normalization is when you boost the max peak to some level. In this case, I normalize the whole level of audio waveform to some targeting level. Nobody complained. Thanks for a tip.

I am out in the music industry since the late 80s. So, it's ok for me if you call me senior ;-) After I have collected initial experiences in studio recordings 1989, I founded my first own recording studio in 1991. As a musician (keyboards and drums), songwriter, producer and "self educated" audio engineer, I have spend the majority of my career so far behind analog gear. And guess what: I still own a multitrack tape machine and a SMPTE synchronizer unit for my good old 1040 STFM :-) Some of my songs were even used on radio and television. So, everything was fine... if something hadn't happened what have changed my life drastically. So I closed my studio and quit the relations to my supported artists arround 2002 to focus on a different path in my life. However, in recent years I have noticed that I am missing something very important. To be creative, to compose and produce music. So I set up a studio again and have started to transfer my audio skills into modern times. That's why it sometimes still sounds a bit 80s (doesn't it, Andrew :-) But, as you already know, with each lesson at the best audio production course on the internet it is getting better from day to day. What is special for me are your professional explanations and examples with which I come "step by step" from the past into the future. And one of the gamechangers for me: Homework-checking-classes. Hey Andrew, Great content and straight forward explanations! After watching most of your posts you talk about and demonstrate a number of different styles of music while mentioning a number of songs you like to reference against. I think it would be awesome if you made a video of your favourite songs that you reference against for different styles of music such as hip hop, edm, rock, pop etc. I find myself always looking for solid reference songs for old school and modern hip hop but most of them have a very novice or over produced amateur quality to them. Im sure we all would find it very helpful and interesting on what you consider to be amazing mixes.
