We are PEX newbs but we'll do our best to explain this system and share our experience as we finally get our water lines run for our new bathroom. We chose Pex-A cold expansion pex and it was a mind blowing experience. No crimping, no leaking and so easy. The home renovation is really coming together now and we can't wait for a hot shower!

Uponor Pex from Uponor, Wisconsin. A Pex is what we use for our outdoor wood boiler. Its fantastic tubing for in floor heat, and water lines. I also made a heating box for my horses water trough, by screwing loops in the box and put spray foam under it. I never had a frozen water trough all winter even with days of -25 * F. Love this stuff!

Back about 17 years ago when Oponor was Wirsbo I had gone to a show at our commercial plumbing supply. Another thing about this brand of pex is if it gets kinked you can heat it with a torch or heat gun the link will relax with no damage to the line.

I used an older version of Pex which has to have the crimper, and absolutely love how easy it is to us compared to using copper! Since I am about to remodel another bathroom, I loved seeing the new Pex system and will probably use it unless the tool is too high priced. I still have all the Pex I need, and like you, chose to use all white Pex. Thanks for sharing Doug! I know how difficult it is to be without water...I managed for over 3 weeks when I bought this old Victorian. Everything was broken! No water and all those burst pipes within walls...whowzer! Thanks to a great friend, we got water! It is worth doing it yourself...just have to have plenty of patience and a willingness to learn new things! I so appreciate you guys for sharing every step!

Is Pex more or less expensive to install than copper etc.?
@BeSmarterToday
@BeSmarterToday 4 жыл бұрын
@@MiddleEastMilli I did an extensive price comparison and found Pex to be both safer and less expensive. You might wish to do the same in the area of the country you happen to be, since everything is different. I am in South Carolina, and bought supplies in both North and South Carolina, since I shop at Lowes and they are about the same difference in mileage. One had some of the Pex supplies, but between them I got everything without a long wait. I love Lowes because they actually had full time plumbers on hand to give guidance and answer all my questions. (That helps a great deal!) Unfortunately, I can't say that Home Depot is near me or has plumbers on staff.

Great progress on your project. Just a thought. I installed a sediment filter several years ago. I installed ball shutoffs on both sides of the filter housing to make it easy to change the filter element. Something else, I installed a drain pan under the filter - when you hit the pressure relief a fair amount of water is released. Lastly since you have plenty of room for the filter housing think about getting a larger one to reduce pressure loss and extend change out times.

@@lisakindhart5505 The UPONOR fittings are cool, but cheap they are NOT, each fitting is 5 to 10 times more then crimp fittings, because they are proprietary (I DO know they have been copied) you also NEED pex A, NOT pex B, at extra cost, and you need the expander tool manual, De Walt or Milwaukee.

This PEX stuff is so cool. I just sent this video to all of the men I know. I do agree with you, you should have made the hole a little larger in the event of a slight expansion. Oh well, at least you'll know for the next time. Regardless, you did an "Amazing Job" for your first time using a brand new system install. btw: You should test out the plumbing with water for any leaks "before" you put up the dry wall. Best to be safe than sorry.

FYI...Hair dryer will warm the pex pipe up and adds flexibility for turns...Also...soapy solution will tell you if a connection is leaking, just use small brush and apply solution to metal connections, they seem to be biggest issue for tiny leaks

You did a great job on the plumbing...I really like the way you don’t have any clips, etc. I do not know how you can figure this all out in your head & then actually have it work out. You’re amazing! (You must’ve got your second wind, Doug... in the last video you were getting quite tired & a little frustrated.) Since you have highly mineralized water? you might want to flush out your lines/pipes every so often. Also, flush the hot water heater...sediment will settle in the bottom. We’ve got something similar & we have to flush them out every so often. Hot water heater, maybe more often? You’d be surprised how something so easy will extend the life of the heater! Now comes the exciting part..,putting in all the new fixtures, finishing your kitchen, living room & Maverick’s room. I’m beyond excited to see how this all turns out!!

Wow! I love that system, wish they had that when I redid our plumbing in our mobile home, I used cpcv throughout, but I would have gladly used what you used, I could have snaked it through areas that were hard to reach:) I noticed you are going to be using a filter to control your rust and sediment, we too have a rust (soluble and non soluble) problem and of course sand, we use a “Rusco” spin down filter, it gets rid off the rust chunks and sand and whatever else it catches, we have a 100 micron filter screen in it, and there’s no changing and replacing filters, all you do is turn a valve at the bottom and it flushes all the stuff out:) They have finer screens too. And after that filter we have a Waterboss Pro380 to soften the water and remove even more rust, the soluble type. We have had that set up for over 20 years and it works great, we just recently replaced the old Waterboss with the newest model. I know it sounds like I’m advertising for them, I’m not, I’m just sharing what we have been doing, we had too much rust and sand and those replaceable filters would clog up to fast and would get costly. Anyhow once again I love your work, the plumbing looks great! Thanks for sharing.

I do this style PEX all day long it's a great way of plumbing in my opinion, I'm a plumber. Some Tips I would suggest.. Use 90 Degree Stub Outs outs and solder the copper stub outs to Hold Rights for under the cabinets and or any sink angle stops along with the Toilet Angle Stops... because it's much more sturdy in case you ever have to replace the Angle Stops in the feature or if you need to shut it off quickly the entire pipe will not twist the way PEX likes to do and or if you were to use a Shark Bite style angle stop you can just push it on instead of trying to hold the PEX pipe and possibly loosing the pex inside the wall. OVER ALL! AMAZING WORK! Looks great! Like I said before you need to start a Remodeling Business when you're done with your house man, no joke!

The difference in colors is just like your knobs red and blue red hot blue cold so if you're going to use white you should put a tape around your pipes to designate hot and cold in case someone else has to work on it. That's thinking ahead. And then you definitely want to drill your holes bigger in case something was to happen play needed to freeze it gives room for expansion

Love the plumbing! Great product! Also glad you installed a rust/sediment filter. We had one when we lived in the country. Another tip for keeping your tub/shower clean is after every use to just take a dry cloth and quickly wipe over the tub, surround, faucet and handles. Leaving water sitting on fixtures can leave hard water residue. A farmer’s wife told me that years ago, and I have practiced it ever since. Really helps. Great job, you two!

Just be careful if you have rodents in the home because they will chew through the pex. Also, don't poison the rodents if you have them because that will make them thirsty and chew the pex even faster

I would think that the colors on Pex lines would be useful if a person was doing a big job and wanted to keep up with the hot and cold water lines... The video was excellent, informative and interesting as always! Great job!

Looks amazing and I KNOW u have to be feeling less pressure now. But Doug, today u made me laugh. U reminded me of the cooking contest shows where everyone's food is excellent but the judges have to nit pick at something. Not necessary. U and Ashley did an amazing job. Yes some folks r gonna correct and judge cause that's their personality, but U guys did great and I learned about the new type pex as a bonus. Ready to roll on to the next step.

I loved tuning in and seeing the great job you are doing on your nicely renovated home. A lot of work for sure, but you are doing a great job! By doing this yourself you know how things have been done. This isn't always the case when someone else does it. You guys are so busy and you must go to bed very tired every night. The best to your family and always keep the right perspective in mind when it comes to family. Make memories that yiu will cherish. Life passes by so quickly and your children will grow up so quickly so take time to enjiy them. Just doing things together. It doesn't have to cost much. Something as simple as having a picnic lunch under a tree or sitting on the river bank fishing for example. You will be glad that you did. Have a wonderful day!🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺😍😍😍😍😍😍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Wow! I've been fascinated by ped watching various US channels, I've never seen it in the UK, but the ped you guys have used is awesome! Don't know why we don't use it here. Also surprised when you mentioned hot water to the washing machine, all appliances in the UK are cold water fill only, been that way for years! The appliances heat the water, which is cheaper than using hot water from the boiler. Amazing how our two countries differ on things like this. Awesome job again guys!

That was very interesting to watch. You made everything look so easy even when you came across a little glitch you simply figured out how to move forward and completed the job. Looking so good and I hope there’s no leaks so you can have your water back.

The pex at most stores is Pex-b and not expandable so just check into the different types if you choose to use it :)

I enjoyed that video very much! I love the pex! It did seem way easier, and quicker too! Very well done. I'll bet you inspire a lot of DIY projects in people. I know I'm inspired, and we have used some of your cool ideas as we build our last house. The coop is cool, the 'no expectations garden', you twos room, Belle's room, its all coming together guys, and you are doing an amazing job of it! ;)

Nice neat job. Pretty satisfying, too, eh? Pex is an excellent diy choice. With pex A, if it does kink just apply moderate heat - hair dryer or hot water - and pex's structural memory will remove all or most of the kink.
