At the end of the song, as he sings "goin' down now", at the very end you can hear his voice bubbling underwater as if drowning in the flood of water. No one ever mentions that special effect when they review this song.

The unique drum sound was created by setting up the drums in the foyer of the castle that they were recording in. The producer only used two microphones setup in the foyer and what resulted was one of the most iconic and powerful drum sounds I’ve ever heard. Haunting and powerful ❤

No, it's not about perseverance at all, it's about, when you get flooded out of your home and it's miles to dry land, it's an utterly hopeless situation. "Cryin' won't help ya, prayin won't do ya no good." Epitomizes the theme of blues itself. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. Anyway, this is my favorite Led Zep song. Bonham's work here is incredible.
