The frame rate is impressive but the dynamic range is lacking. Hope they can fix that in a software update.
@CallMeRabbitzUSVI2 жыл бұрын
It's something that has to be sacrificed to achieve such high frame rates.the file sizes are brutal and upping the bit depth or quality will make it almost unusable storage wise
@chinitopinoy17262 жыл бұрын
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI I know. It’s still pretty good decent regardless.
@WallaceLau2 жыл бұрын
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Going from 10 bit to 12 bit is 20% increase in storage requirement (write speed) but it will increase your dynamic range by 400% (2 stops) - which is huge. Clearly worth the trade-off. Plus I don't even think the camera is providing more than 8-9 stop usable dynamic range. Nearly unusable in bright daylight.... You either have to deal with clipping a lot (as shown in this review), or extremely noisy shadows...
@WallaceLau2 жыл бұрын
Amen brother. Plus all the broken promises. It's now been, what, nearly 2 years? And still no app, no Bluetooth connectivity or any WiFi implementation to check critical focus (HDMI output is only 1080p and it still doesn't have any focus-magnification functions). We bought it mainly for scientific use and at super high frame rates you need LOTS of light and REALLY fast lens (we frequently have to film at f1.2). The shallow depth of field is not forgiving, and if we missed focus by just a hair the experiment has to be repeated. When some tests costs upwards of hundreds of dollars to run each time, the lack of simple tools (which was promised but yet unfulfilled from over a year ago) is infuriating. In fact we would've never bought it if we knew even half of this from the get go. Long story short, there are more than a few thing they really needed to fix...
@chinitopinoy17262 жыл бұрын

The amount of slow-motion is fantastic. There are a lot of fun practical applications for a camera like this. But it seems like in order to achieve it, the camera has really low DR. As a result the contrast is super hard and the shadows were slammed in so many shots, and even some of the coffee face shots had ultra harsh highlights. In order to get the best results out of something like this, minimizing the DR is probably the best approach. Use something like a butterfly scrim over all your subjects to make the light really even and compressed down to only 6-7 stops of DR. The only other thing is whether or not this camera is shooting in 10-bit and allows for shooting in some form of LOG. Which would help at least in terms of smoothing some of it out in post. A camera without decent DR and using LOG won't save you though. If shadows are crushed and highlights are blown, no level of flatness fixes that - but it might allow for at least nicer transitions from the highest to the lowest that the camera can capture. EDIT: According to the specs, this guy shoots 10-bit and should have 10-11 stops of dynamic range. Which isn't "the best ever" but it's certainly not terrible, especially for a camera of this type. So I'm not sure what's going on here. I guess maybe you guys like really hard grades or you missed exposure in camera and couldn't save it in post (as in the camera doesn't have the latitude to allow you to save it in post). EDIT 2: Yeah, Parker Walbeck's team talked about these problems with the camera (needing good exposure and not having a lot of DR or latitude). Really tough to shoot on a camera like this in a single day - in terms of trying to know all the nuances and nail that exposure and get everything cinched up. For basically receiving the camera and shooting same day you did an excellent job. I likely couldn't do better. It's hard to shoot on something like this without doing a bunch of testing.

@WallaceLau2 жыл бұрын
Yes 100% agreed. They advertise "10-11 stops" of dynamic range but in reality it's more like 8-9 stops. Highlight clipping is brutal, and the noise floor is not forgiving. Also 1080p mode is pretty useless since it is line-skipped; we use it for scientific purpose which is OK, but as a cinematic tool it's very limited.
