The secret to Nightwish's big sound is their composer, Tuomas Holopainen, who plays keyboards. His compositions are then drafted into metal songs with the help of bassist\vocalist Marco Hietala and guitarist Emppu Vuorinen. Then Tuomas works with the London Philharmonic Symphony and world renown choir, Metro Voices to arrange his compositions into orchestral and choir backgrounds. He layers it all together, then they rehearse like crazy to get it down perfectly. Tuomas plays piano, but also digitals samples of the orchestra and choir. But alas, he is only one man, so whatever he can't play is played as a backtrack from the mixing board by technicians. Add Floor Jansen's world class vocals on top, and you have Nightwish. Nightwish is still together and is planning a tour for 2021. They have a virtual concert coming up I believe. Sadly though, the drummer here, Jukka Nevalainen has retired from drumming for medical reasons, but still works the management side of the band. Also, Marco, the bassist has recently left the band and his replacement has not yet been announced (unless I missed it).

That "high part" you were talking about, there is a story behind it. Floor Jansen, the female singer had to take a plane to the US to fill in for Annette. This recording was eight months later, but officially Floor was still not part of the band. She was singing the songs that were composed for the two former singers. The fans and the band were so happy with the way she sang and her stage performance that they knew she would stay. That "high part" was before this a recording of a children's choir on a backing track. It makes perfectly sens in a song called Storytime. Floor did not need that and sang the whole children's choir part by herself, perfectly the way it sounded on the CD. This also added to the notion that Floor could sing everything.

This is the tail end show of their 18 month "Imaginaerum" Album world tour.. The thing to know is that "Floor" is their third lead singer. In 2012 when they started this tour Anette was the lead singer.. ("Good" but a more popish sounding voice).. But, about 8 months in, she could not continue and had to drop out.. Toumas "music composer/keyboard player" called Floor and asked her to sing lead for Nightwish.. Her current band was inactive at the time, so she said yes and flew out to meet up with them on the road.. Seattle I think... But, by the time she caught up to them she had 48 hours to learn the full set list while traveling in the bus prior to their next tour date... She finished out the last 10 months of tour dates.. So, she had only been singing as the Nightwish lead singer for 10 months prior to this show.. Toumas writes the songs and composes the music to suit the vocalist, so none of these songs were written for Floor... If the song was written for their first lead singer "very strong operatic vocals" or like most of these for their second lead singer "not so strong popish vocalist", Floor just did it all. She was asked to become the permanent lead singer of Nightwish just after this show..

They have the London Royal Philharmonic orchestra recorded on the synth that Tuomas is playing
@phillee28143 жыл бұрын
It is mostly on tracks pre-recorded and played back straight from the recordings, although Tuomas is often playing on the same cadence. The little bit of sound tech work I did was pre-digital, so I'm not all that familiar with current tech, but I think they use a program called Pro Audio Tools, or somthing like that - I'm sure someone will correct or confirm that. It allows each section (strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, male voices, female voces, children's voices (however thin you want to slice it, really) to be adjusted to suit the acoustics of the venue. Tuomas does also have samples from the various instruments (patches) installed on his keyboards, but they are not part of the orchestral or choral sound. The MIDI signals which he controls from his keyboards are, at their best, a demonstration of what MIDI can do, with tracks for pyro and other stage effects as well.

Welcome again into the Nightwish Army. So we noticed you’re impressed by our queen Floor Jansen. Although Nightwish is Finnish their 3rd female vocalist is not. Floor is Dutch and lives with her Swedish husband and daughter in Sweden. At the age of 16 she started her career as (initially) the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997 but real soon she took the lead until early 2009. Parallel she studied at the Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. Her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer. All the symphonic music you hear (on almost every song of Nightwish was composed by Tuomas (keyboards) but is performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since there’s not enough space on stage for a full live orchestra (and also couldn’t go with them on world tour for more than a year) it’s a pre-recorded running soundtrack at Angel Studios, London. This orchestra is featuring on every album NW released since ‘Once’ (except the last one Human :|: Nature which is performed by Blue Dot Orchestra). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTbm36iisidjtE The background choir you frequently hear are the Metro Voices, a choir group also based in London. At this song also a child choir has performed and in others even a boy soprano (not this song): Guy Elliott, 2nd boy soprano: Tom Williams, courtesy of the Reigate St Mary's Choir School Young Musicians London (child choir)

It is easy to underappreciate this concert 2013 in Wacken. It might as a whole just have been one of the legendary performances of this millennium, 82000 people, amazing atmosphere, and Floor Jansen commanding the crowd. Floor's voice - just because she is not known from Billboard Top 100 - is maybe one of the best voices of our current time. In the studio it might be easy, but to pull this off live......very few can do this. And especially during this pandemic, maybe this feeling of that live concert will be hard to recreate in the next years. Like you, I was wondering myself "Where have I been in 2013 ? Wasting my time working, rather than being in Wacken." Wacken is in North Germany, by the way. I hope we will have another opportunity to experience this live.

Hey Justin & Staci. I just came across your channel this evening and have enjoyed your reactions to both Nightwish songs, Storytime and Ghost Love Score. Ghost Love Score was also my first time experiencing the joy of listening to Nightwish with the Vocal Goddess, Floor Jansen on lead vocals and I have been a die hard fan ever since. Like you I have not yet been able to enjoy them live but will be making that trek the first chance I get. I have watched the complete video of this concert (link below) and it was EPIC from beginning to end. FYI, the band was headlining this evening at Wacken Open Air and was playing in front of 82,000 fans! Also, at this time, Floor had only been with Nightwish for approximately 3 months and this was her first major concert as their lead vocalist. If I didn't know that I could swear that she had been with them a lot longer than that. Apparently, she wasn't even a full time, permanent member of the band yet either. But to Tuomas's credit, he remedied that not too long after this concert. 🎼 Nightwish Live at Wacken Open Air 2013 🎶 Correct speed - FullHD - Remastered 🎶 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXLapa2fbLZmeM0 I would like to recommend a few of my favorite Nightwish performances that I hope you will also enjoy: Nightwish - Dead Boy's Poem - Live In Buenos Aires 2018 - Decades Tour (So amazingly epic! Ghost Love Score featuring Floor Jansen was my favorite Nightwish performance from the first time I saw it. It still is, but this performance of Dead Boy's Poem in Buenos Aires comes very close to taking the crown.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWmoZH9tnMx_g68 Nightwish - The Islander (Live At Tampere) (This is mostly a solo performance by the amazingly talented Marko Hietala, Bass & Male Vocals, who very sadly announced not too long ago that he was leaving the band. I respected his reasons for leaving but he will be sorely missed. He is not only a talented musician but also a very talented vocalist as well. His voice harmonized so beautifully with Floor's. Floor and the rest of the band join him near the end of the performance closing it off with a bang!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKCbn5aBlJqesMU NIGHTWISH - Yours Is An Empty Hope (LIVE) (I would consider this to be one of Nightwish's heavier songs. You obviously know by now how much of a talented vocalist Floor is. The lady can sing everything from the highest soprano notes down to the lowest gutteral growls. I have heard her do all of that and more in one performance. Anyway, in this performance of Your's Is An Empty Hope she really gets down with her Metal self and it is amazing! Hear those growls during the chorus.... Yes, that is Floor!!!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqW7ooiEd52tqLc Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera | Beste Zangers 2019 (This is not a Nightwish performance but for any Floor Jansen fan it is a must see. Beste Zangers (Best Singers) is a Dutch singing show that she was on in 2019. In this performace she does a duet along with the Dutch Opera Singer Henk Poort singing a portion of The Phantom of the Opera. It will Blow you away!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2mhJagq6mCgK8 Nightwish live @ tampere The Greatest Show On Earth (This is amazing. This is one of Nighwish's longest performances that tells the story of the evolution of our Earth according to a book by Richard Dawkins. The ending of this performance shows why the band has so many adoring fans. The way the band takes the time after a long concert to come out and show love to their fans warms my heart. If you do react to this performance PLEASE watch right through the credits to the very end of the video as there is a quote from Richard Dawkins right at the end that closes out the performance perfectly. In my experience I have never seen any other band close a concert like Nightwish does!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ambFo616f7CNadE That's it for now. I would love to see you do a reaction to some or all of these performances. You will DEFINITELY not be dissapointed! I love your enthusiasm and commentary. Subbed. I think the big sound word you're looking for is Symphonic.😂 They use backing tracks from the London Philharmonic Orchestra with music composed by Tuomas (keyboards and creator of Nightwish). One of the things I like about this band is how happy they look while performing. Smiles everywhere. Another is Floor's voice will always be above the music. A lot of other live performer's will have their voice buried in the music or use special effects or backup singers. This band is just awesome live. The Nightwish song I don't love does not exist. As for crowd surfing, first you need a lot of tightly packed people. No problem at a Nightwish concert. 82,000 fans at this one. People crowd surf for fun, to get to the front to use the restroom and medical emergencies. More Nightwish please. No fair sneaking in listens without us along for the ride. 😉😀😍

There is a 6th member of Nightwish, Troy, who was not in these two great songs (compositions actually) you have enjoyed thus far. Troy plays a variety of instruments and sings as well. The suggestions for the song "I Want My Tears Back" at Buenos Aires has the full band and amazing audience participation, very fun! Nightwish has an online concert coming up soon.

welcome to Nightwish and the Nightwish Army...and Floor Jansen one of the best vocalist and performer in the world!!!!! Hope you continue the journey with Nightwish and especially this concert series. Then you can experience Epica with Simone who is Floor's best friend and former room mate. Both unbelievable vocalists. BTW the place is Wacken, pronounced "Vack in" which is in Germany

Can't wait for more Nightwish reactions from you two! Just as a heads up, Nightwish has over 100 songs of this quality... they literally have no weak songs at all, and they have been active since the 1996. There are songs you might not feel immediately, but it just means you aren't ready for that song yet in your life. Later you hear those songs, and can't comprehend how you didn't think they were the best thing since sliced bread I would recommend taking a side track to Nightwish's 2 other main vocalists with their metal cover of Phantom of the Opera with the first female singer and the basist/male vocalist (he is absolutely amazing as well!) before continuing on with the current era Nightwish with Romanticide, that song is pure adrenaline

Greetings, Justin. Greetings, Stacy. And welcome to the awesome world of Floor Jansen and Nightwish!!! Safe to say the Nightwish Army is upon you... 😊 The band.... (this venue) Tuomas Holopainen- founder/keyboard player/mastermind behind the madness. Emppu Vuorinen- Guitar Yes, that one single guitarist raises all that HELL! 😂 Marko Hietala- Bass/Vocals Unfortunately, on January 12, 2021, Marko released an open letter stating his displeasure with the music industry and so made a decision based on his experience and chronic depression that stated; "I am leaving Nightwish and my public life." He also asked that he not be contacted by "anyone" regarding music in any way for the remainder of 2021, at least! We wish him many blessings. Jukka Nevalainen- Drums Jukka took a break in 2014 because of health issues due to insomnia. His close friend, Kai Hahto, took over on Drums and even recorded the tracks for Floor's very first Nightwish studio album, "Endless Forms Most Beautiful". In 2015, Jukka announced that he would not be returning to Nightwish as the drummer, but will continue to work with the band behind the scenes. Troy Donockley- multi instrumentalist Troy had played with Nightwish for years as a guest musician. He first appeared on the album Dark Passion Play and even played a few shows with them. He became a permanent member of the band in June 2013. Floor Jansen- Vocals The 6 foot 1, Dutch Goddess of all things vocal is a soprano, has had training in and taught opera as well as was a vocal coach. She has dissected the vocal mechanism and learned anything and everything there is to know about how it works and what you can do with it. (She prides her self a "geek" on that topic) hence her ridiculous versatility and perfect performances. Floor became a permanent member in June 2013. This venue is pronounced (vä•ken) Wacken Open Air Festival, Germany 2013. Nightwish was the headliner and performed in front of an 82,000+ crowd and some perfectly aligned stars because this concert is to date Nightwish's greatest accomplishment. Despite the fact Floor sang songs that were originally sung by other artists, her arrival had not only perfect timing, but it brought a certain vibe the band never had before and this concert was the one that put her on the Nightwish map. For your next reaction, I recommend "Song of Myself" also from Wacken 2013. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLYZoSgnsl7jck Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤🤘🤘

Welcome to the Nightwish ARMY. Glad to have you. My wife and I saw them in Kalamazoo, MI in March 2018. Since then, I heard Marco (the Bass player) has left the band. I haven't look to much into it as I don't want it to be true, but if it is, that is going to change the dynamic of the band. If they are still touring, I don't know. BUT I really hope you two can catch a show. Because what you see in live videos is exactly what I got at the live show. They are that good.

The craziest thing she hadn't been with the band that long here their previous singer left in the middle of their imaginarium tour in 2012 so they brought floor she had 48 hours to learn the set list and as they say the rest is history she became an official member sometime in 2013 ps some info about her and the band her name is Floor Jansen her last name is pronounced yansen she's Dutch 40 years old she's been performing in bands for 24 years she was in two other bands before nightwish she has a 5 almost 6 octave vocal range she's been a vocal coach for 15 years and she's 6" 1 not in heels in heels she's 6"3/6"4 nightwish have been around since 1997 and had two singers before Floor ps she's also classically trained and went to a rock academy and studied musical theater and opera

Love your enthusiasm! You two obviously have a great relationship and it shows in these reactions. There is an incredible amount of great music out there that you will never discover by listening to radio. Keep up this journey of discovery. I can tell you that Japan has a lot of great bands for rock and metal, especially all female bands (Bandmaid, Lovebites to name just two) where the musicianship is world class. Subscribed.

Big?...Nah, Bruh; the word is EPIC. I'm a huge Nightwish fan, and I always describe their music/songs as "sonic movies" - each different in story - but they all consistently have the Nightwish recipe (...and never a "formula"). So glad you guys enjoyed this song: Strytime will always, involuntarily, elevate and make you smile. Enjoy your Nightwish journey; sit back and enjoy the ride.

Hi Guys from the UK. Nightwish...there are no words! Very theatrical performances..epic and then there's Floor a six foot one inch Dutch Amazon who can really belt it out. Floor was classically trained and you have just experienced a classic "Floorgasm"! If you want epic take a look at "The Greatest Show on Earth" live from Tempere. Take care.

Nice reaction! I've recently discovered Nightwish too. I'm not a metal fan and don't like their heavier stuff but I really like Ghost Love Score, Storytime, and a few others. Just heard their song Alpenglow too which is great. Has a cheerful vibe and has the best transition/change up that I've ever head. Floor now has to be one of my favourite singers. :)

great to get new nightwish reactors. i enjoy your style to react :) what a nightwish journey is ahead to you. plenty different great songs and new album to see. you say very good that many singers have only one tone and that´s getting boring in long run,but floor ooooh lalaaa not boring at all. thanx and have great day there. ps. one day when you deeper in this band you can see that glamorous and vibes come when every members of this band (tuomas, floor, marko, troy, emppu, kai/ jukka) put they efforts together and sound is that in the end :)

You did not met their 6th members Troy Donockley (born 30 May 1964) yet. He is an English composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of the Uilleann pipes. This is the characteristic national bagpipe of Ireland. Earlier known in English as "union pipes", their current name is a partial translation of the Irish-language term píobaí uilleann (literally, "pipes of the elbow"), from their method of inflation. Other instruments: tin whistle, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone. Having performed with many artists as a session player, he is most notable as a member of Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, which he has performed as guest musician live on stage and studio albums with since 2007 and joined as a full-time member in 2013. He is not continuously on stage but when he is he played a remarkable role in that song. Experience his performance at ‘Last of the Wilds’ kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioevi6OmfbGKfJY Live at Wacken 2013 or ‘Alpenglow’ live at Wembley Arena, London 2015. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKOtp36Qg6qbbck or ‘The Islander’ live at Tampere 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKCbn5aBlJqesMU

🔥🔥🔥 Nightwish has two live streaming concerts May 28-29 and they do have a world tour planned but can't be sure yet how many of the countries are going to be ready for it. They have at least four shows in the US in October. Los angeles, NYC, and Lowell, MA. As for more reactions, maybe try either Romanticide, Song of Myself or Dark Chest of Wonders next, still Wacken 2013 concert. 🔥🔥🔥

The keyboardist, Tuomas, composes all the songs and even writes the orchestral parts which are recorded by the London Symphonic Orchestra and choir. And then mixed and played on a backing track. They do have tour dates for the beginning of October. Hopefully it still happens. There is a virtual concert in May if you want to get tickets for that. There is a 6th member as well. Troy Donockley plays traditional Irish instruments (flutes, whistles, bouzouki, and bagpipes). If you want to hear him play I strongly recommend I Want My Tears Back from Buenos Aires 2018. Get ready to party if you do that one.
