A good way of doing this effect is as a mentalism routine by combining it with 6 playing cards (1-6). You then force the corresponding playing card before revealing the dice. If you wanted to, you can also force the dice number by having a separate plastic canister in your back pocket, extracting it and then doing a shuttle pass to swap it in for the spectator's canister.

You can also do the trick differently by telling them to put their chosen number face down. All opposite sides of a die equals 7. So if they choose a 2 and put it face down and you 'see' a 5, you know it's a 2. I think that would be more effective as you definitely cannot 'see' anything from the bottom. 😉

why do u need two tubes, whats the justification ? Why don't you just cover the die with the tube and lose the lid and then reveal.

Hi. Correct. You don’t need two containers. At the same time, your patter could definitely justify using both. From the audience’s perspective, divining a die sealed in two containers seems to be impossible. Technically, we could ask, “Why even use a die or even limit the range to 1 through 6? Why not just ask someone to think of any number they wish and reveal it without using any props whatsoever? As you know, with any effect, there’s good, better, and best. And in mentalism, the fewer props used, the better. The particular trick featured in this video is a good beginner’s mental magic trick. You can definitely improve the presentation or handling within the confines of the two containers and the method itself, but advanced mentalists have no use for this unless they use the containers as pill boxes. But for the beginning magician? A fun trick that will help them to practice a mental-themed presentation.

Are you blind? Just asking. Because you doing this trick and you feel for the other container and say: there it is. It is visible, and your head is offscreen so you could have looked down. So hence the question if you are blind or not? Otherwise, why would you say: there it is?
