Yet, you got holden at the end of season 2 feeling guilty because his seeing the menace of this serial killer, to the community and the family that were impacted. Maybe, but not really sure. As far as we know he didn't participate in the actual death of a toddler. He was exposed to the picture you mentioned, but it could be that it shocked him initially. But him hearing the story of how Jesus was resurrected at church likely caused him to think that putting the toddler on the cross could resurrect him. He's messed up mentally, but not sure he's a sociopath or psycopath. Pretty sure he may be autistic and has issues with social settings.

I think BTK is there to show us that Bill and Holden have no clue. All the work they have done over the years and advancements the FBI has made over the years didn't catch BTK, and their profile of him was almost 100% inaccurate. Rader was an anamoly. He didn't grow up abused or from a broken home, he wasn't a loner, nor did he grow up abusing animals. He was a model American: He had a wife and 2 kids, worked hard, went to church every Sunday and volunteered in his community. He's in the show to spit in the face of profiling and everything we believed about serial killers.

Tench would interview Bundy because his real life counterpart Robert Ressler did. Also that’s a common misconception that Bundy helped the fbi create a profile. John Douglas(Holden’s inspiration) and his team came up with a profile in ‘83. Bob Keppel got a letter from Bundy in 88-89 about GRK. Bundy didn’t tell them anything they didn’t already know. They knew the killer was going back and having sex with his dead victims, and Bundy suggested staking out areas where a fresh body had been discovered. They’d already tried that but the media always found out and would ruin a stakeout. GRK was just a pretense for Bob Keppel(and the fbi) to get Bundy to loosen up by stroking his ego, so that he’d eventually reveal insights into his own pathology, admit to his crimes(which he eventually did) and hopefully confess to some unknown murders.

I loved this season, the entire point of the Atlanta child murders case this season was to show that FBI and law enforcement had tunnel vision when it came to Wayne Williams as a suspect. Wayne did do SOME of the murders, John Douglas even said that there was a link to 11 of the victims from the physical evidence, eye witness testimony/accounts seeing him or one of the three vehicles he had access to in the area, the accessibility of his job working in local news making him familiar with the wooded areas giving him knowledge on where to dump bodies, along with him lying constantly about things, along with his parents helping to facilitate his lies; but in the end he most definitely did not do ALL the murders. Holden at the end feeling hollow and sad really reflected the frustration that people who cared about the case felt in reality. After they got Wayne in their sights the media and law enforcement just created him into the Atlanta Monster. They had spent more time and resources trying to prove that he did every murder rather then actually go out and look at any other person(s). After they got him, there was no incentive to look at what happened to the other kids since "they got their guy", so there was never that victory lap that they were talking about toward the end for the families of those children. Also, gotta say, I loved how Fincher really emphasized at the end that because of the job that Bill, Wendy, and Holden do it just isolates them and makes it hard for their home life and relationships to be happy.

I agree, the murders did stop when stop when they caught Wayne. I think a lot of people missed the point of Wayne Williams, he was only found guilty of killing two adult men, and at that time most black people did not expect a Afro-American man to be a suspect in that situation.

Boy Blue I think that’s why they left that “pedophile Polaroid” scene in at the end of episode 9. They wanted to show that it’s very possible that Wayne didn’t commit all these murders, but unfortunately law enforcement wasn’t able to investigate this further

I think the worst part was he wasnt convicted for killing any kids which only fueled alternate theories, but if you watch interviews with him im convinced he killed at least some of the kids and the most damning evidence is that the killings stopped, and this show keeps showing how killers cant iust quit like that

I enjoyed this season most than the first one. I think Bill’s son story is interesting, it helps to expand the profile of serial killers since having a violent childhood or having some kind of trauma is not always the cause of why they commit these crimes. Genetics also plays a key factor in these cases since there are kids diagnosed as psychopaths early in there lives because of unbalanced chemicals in their brains that makes them unable to feel any empathy towards others. Bill’s son may be one of those kids and maybe they are going to explore the role of genetics in the next season.

Season 2 was just okay. Mindhunter author John E. Douglas has already confided that there shall be five (5) seasons, in total. Obviously, the coming final three seasons of Mindhunter will continue to focus on Dennis Rader (BTK/Kansas), but with the end point of Season 2 focused on Wayne B. Williams/Atlanta Child Murders, which ended circa 1981-1982, we should expect to encounter new suspects such as Donald Harvey (Angel of Death/Ohio and Kentucky), Richard Ramirez (Night Stalker/California), Jeffrey Dahmer (Milwaukee Cannibal/Wisconsin), Gary Ridgway (Green River Killer/Seattle) et al.

@@theambiguoustroll2166 I disagree with your "wokeness" point at the end. I think the show accurately portrays some the feelings felt by the people in Atlanta at the time and also shows by the end of the investigation how they were the ones who were actually seeing in tunnel vision. At first the show portrays Holden that way with him continually sticking to his initial profile, but in the end we actually see that it was almost spot on for Wayne Williams. But even though he is right, the people of Atlanta at the end are bitter and resentful towards him. They were not happy with the end result because the killer was not who they wanted or expected it to be. But the difference is in the way that the scenes play out, this time we are supposed to feel bad for Holden. His instincts were correct but the guy is not going down for all of the murders. His instincts were correct, but the victims families are not grateful. Basically, I think the ending was very well done, and showed that even if you do the right thing in some situations, people may still hate you for it.

@@JonBlade101Official I definitely want to see the green River killer, but I believe they will do a time jump since the btk guy wasn't caught until the early 2000s. I do believe Wayne Williams did it because the murders stop when he was caught.

Season 1 was way too good that it set the bar very high. I found season 2 ok. Nowhere near the level of season 1 but that just speaks to the greatness of season 1. Not very eventful but it does throw alot at you. Hope season 3 takes that next step. Still one of the best shows!

Does anyone know what the scenes from.season 1 with Wendy leaving tuna for the cat meant? I just rewatched s1 and they gave it a fair ammount of attention. Am i missing something?

I remember reading that the director said that a budding serial killer/sociopath killed the cat, i think it was to sort of represent how a lot of serial killers start at a young age with animals. I'm not sure though

I guess Nancy(Tench's wife)was the victim of that mystery man in the end. He has her jewellery and sandals with her photo. Did anyone notice??

good eye! But I think the news clip at the last episode is dated in 1977 and season 2 is around 79-81 so maybe it's her maybe it's not. I hope it's not her so that we'll see how Brian will develop eventually

That is not Nancy's stuff. What's happening in that scene is BTK renting a motel room so he can pleasure himself to his victims stolen items, and also so his wife doesn't catch him again.

This is more of an ending recap, or at best a personal account of how you felt it concluded. The series is amazing and takes 2 years to make these rich and insightful episodes. And the casting director is next level.

Mindhunter is awesome! Although season 1 felt more "action packed" with more interviews with serial killers, which imo are the best parts of this show, season 2 was still well written and a thrill to watch. And the way season 2 ended BTK might be the main antagonist of S3. Which might be the best season yet depending on how everything panned out from the first 2 seasons.

The thing with mindhunter is you have to research the killers, or it’s going to be boring and unsatisfying. I’d never heard of wayne and I didn’t really want to research him, so the ending wasn’t great for me. I didn’t put this together as well as it was here though. The whole Brian being involved in a murder, is also a bit weird and forced, I do get what they’re trying to do though. I do like the underlying btk narrative though, so I’ll keep watching. Hopefully it’ll be here 2020 🤞

I love how this show has professional psychological analysis about murderers and their motives. S1 and S2 was great about understanding murderer’s childhood and how they becoming who they are. Some people critizes the show about showing character’s personal life but actually their personal life important to the show’s depth. We can understand character’s decisions more if we learn more. Especially learning Bill’s family life especially his child is very connected to the murderer’s childhood. Bill is becoming even defensive when they interviewed Manson or some child victims situation. I mean Bill is trying to be a good dad but still he is absent in his life. Nancy is in depression and it is not helping too. Also this show is asking again : “ If life situation of Murderers would be different , they would be still a Mırderer because they are biologically defective ? “ Also the show explain that how hard you work , still if judgement does not work correctly, justice will never find its place. :/ However this show also show that every person can have prejudice and mistakes .

I must agree with you. There lot of unnecessary subplots in the story. The show spent much time on Bills personal life and Wendys love drama and less time on what makes the movie great. They should phase Greg and Wendy out and bring Jim.

@@tristanburton3554 she is a great actress and hot too btw. My complain is that they changed her character from a professional, key member of the unit who happened to be lesbian to a lesbian who happened to be part of the team. In the case of Ford and Bill it was understandable that they showed a bit of their personal lives because you can see how the job takes a toll on them and their lives but the portray of Wendys relationship in season 2 served no real purpose in advancing the show. It was more showing a lesbian relationship as novelty.

@@john_doe_smith I loved that they showed Wendy's personal life. It's important to fully develop a character, and her struggles with her sexuality (living an honest life) is a significant aspect of her life and reveals that she's not as tough and unapologetic as she'd like to be perceived. It was also interesting to see how she had to work with openly homophobic colleagues. What annoyed me is that they didn't focus on showing her doing her job as much. It was mainly just Wendy with her lover. The rare scenes of Wendy conducting the interviews show how great she is at it, as she has way more insight into the human psyche than the others. Yet she was sidelined, while the boys were delegated to do the real work.
