That Stern broadcast was amazing. My dad worked on the South Tower, thank God he's ok, but the phones weren't working until later that afternoon so we didn't know. Stern had the best coverage, better than any of the news networks. Cabbie was great too, and the day after was a good show.

I wondered if anybody else would notice that. talk about crass. I lived in South Carolina back then, and nobody aired commercials during the early hours of the catastrophe. most of the small stations connected with larger stations so you got the news from the source with the most ability to get news. Sports talk host Jim Rome was on for about one minute, told his listeners that all stations carrying his show should immediately return to news programs and signed off.

Realization of what was taking place hadn't truly set in. I've listened to other broadcasts and there were people that actually laughed during their commentaries... Their was shock first, and the first thing we do as human beings is to try and accept those kind of events as small things... That is until the mind can began to absorb the reality of the situation... Then we began to accept, show respect, and grieve..
@BlueCyann
@BlueCyann 5 жыл бұрын
Not to defend exactly, especially later, but people really didn't understand at first. Many of the callers were underestimating the size of the plane or hadn't seen it; it was easy to believe or to hope it was a horrible-looking but relatively minor accident. Where you wouldn't necessarily cancel commercials if you heard of a small plane crashing into a building somewhere. Of course I didn't personally have to listen to commercials going on all day (we had a radio playing at work, but it was on a different station), so I'm just responding to the impact of what I did hear.

Morning radio at its worst - 5 minutes of content, 5 minute of inane ads. I have to say that among all the morning radio shows that “covered” this event live The Howard Stern Show remains the most raw, honest and emotional experience I have seen. All these other automaton sock-puppets scrambling to wedge in their batch of ads between canned responses is just cringe-worthy garbage.

Didn't realize the call from Warner Wolf was so delayed from the actual impact time until just now but it makes sense in retrospect hearing the (also delayed) report of the second impact just as I was arriving. James McLaren I saw all of the news coverage for David 911 happened… I heard Howard Stern cover it several months later… I was transfixed… I would’ve rather had that to go to because just having news news news news news like it was got to be overwhelming after a while. Opie and Anthony and Adam and Mike we’re good too…. Did not hear Ron and says but found at their show on KZbin or year or so ago

Kate VD unfortunately people are saying they are glad he is dead. I mean ok he made a mistake making that remark but he was still an icon and yet the people forget all the stuff he did for the kids with cancer.

All of the bullshit speculation while talking live is why there are so many stupid bullshit conspiracy theories about the physics of what happened that day. … I didn’t see a plane, must’ve been a missile. Twin engine, major jet engine, propeller plane. Wish we would’ve learned the lesson about speculating in real time, but we haven’t really.

21 years later and it still feels like yesterday. We ALL remember where we were. I was at work, and we heard about the first place hitting the tower. We ran into the cafeteria where we had a tv in there and we were all glued to CNN (bite my tongue for saying that now) and that's when we all saw the second plane hit. There was a huge 'ohhhh my God" in the crowd in the cafeteria. I dont think anyone stayed at work that day. At the time my oldest at the time was 7 years old, and my 21 year old was born exactly a week before. All children were let out of school, went home and i think we were glued to the TV all day and night. I remember crying seeing all the people jump to their deaths. So sad!!
