You could take the "one" and move it over the minus sign making it a plus sign and that would be read as: 4 + = 4. ( Four plus zero = 4) Zero does not have to listed as a numeral...any blank in an equation is equal to zero.

Do the sticks have to remain in the puzzle for it to be considered a valid solution? On #1, the top of the 7 could be removed, leaving 0+1=1. #4 could be 7-6=1. #6 is 8-5=3

7 - 0 =1 has a second answer. Like in the given answer, move the top match from the 7, making it a one; then move the removed match to the other side of the equation as 1 to the first power. 1 - 0 = 1 (to first power).

Here is a funny (naughty) little trick. Place four matches to make a square. Make a second square one match distance apart from the first one. Then place three single matches vertically beside the squares at match distance apart. So now insure that you have two squares and three vertical matches all at the distance of a match apart. You then explain that the three vertical matches are steps to climb up into the squares which are manholes. Then tell the person to move only two matches to make one manhole utilising all matches but only by moving two of them. When they give up, you take the vertical match from the right hand side of the first square and place it horizontally over the last single match. This turns the first square into the letter C, and makes a T of the last single match. Then move the top horizontal match of the second square and place it diagonally between the first and second single match. This turns the second square into the letter U, and makes the letter N with the match you moved diagonally. This spells a naughty word, and you tell the person that the word represents, “ONE MANHOLE.”

Move the match on the last # to make a three and turn the first # into an eight. 8-5=3

The last one is move the stick from the right number 9 so then it makes 3 to the five to make 6 so it becomes 9-6=3!
