Vacated mines are former industry sites. Leaving evidence of that activity. Extracted soil and stone, typically. People start this hobby by learning where mining may occur. I may find man-made excavations searching for Karst. What I expect to enter and explore is not man-made. One such entry found Saber-tooth Tigers. SCUBA let me find unknown life within tropic reef caves. Have done Grade-6 cave cartography for the US Park Service.
