Ok, I make addons on bedrock and I need to clear out some misinformation: 1. PBD files being removed do not affect addons, and mainly affect clients and modded versions of BDS softwear. 2. Mojang isnt removing modding from minecraft java, and it isnt fully removed from bedrock either. 3. You can still get 3rd party addons/mods that arent from the marketplace. If you arent aware of the technical side of bedrock you'll likely see the headline and assume the worst. This isnt the case. There are some really amazing projects that did get screwed over because of this, however, modding as a whole is *STILL A THING ON BEDROCK!*

Oh don’t worry, it got worse. In the most recent update that released today, they’ve gotten rid of Holiday Creator Features, a necessary experimental gameplay for most mods to work; Such as ones that add new mobs, etc. Now most current mods are un usable, except the ones from the marketplace of course, as the Marketplace modders have access to certain code that regular modders don’t. At this point, I’m just going to start saving for a Nasa Super computer to get Java.

Addons and actual mods for bedrock are completely different. And the marketplace is not the only way to download content on bedrock, that is just wrong. There are plenty of apps, and also websites, where you can download content such as addons, maps, and texture packs, for free. And also, most of these mods, were mostly client based, and didn't really change too much about the game, just more of adding simple stuff like Optifine zoom and UI changes. And another thing, a majority of the community didn't even know actual mods for bedrock even existed. Most people would buy addons and other content from the marketplace or get free content elsewhere. So the fact that the community is outraged, when a majority of them didn't even use these mods at all, is just kind of silly. Microsoft probably saw that these features weren't being utilized enough by the community, and probably found it best to just do away with these features. And if Microsoft did want people to use pdb files, they should've made proper documentation for it, and showed how it works. Also, I'm not really sure if the same rules apply here, but a couple of months ago, Mojang removed a feature for addons, that a lot of the player base didn't even know about. I was actually one of the people who utilized it btw. I actually asked one of the Mojang employees, and they actually confirmed that the main reason why it was removed is because it was costing them money to keep supporting this feature. And since it wasn't too well known, it was pointless in their eyes, to keep paying for it to be up for like the 5 people probably using it. And after they removed it, sure, I was outraged. I complained for days, and so did others. However, there was nothing we could do, the only thing we could do, was move on. And it's best that everyone who worked on these actual mods, move on to. And I'm not saying just simply give up, but rather, stop complaining online, and acting like Mojang/Microsoft actually care about your opinion, they don't. They won't change their minds. And if they do, that would be a huge shocker. But for anyone out there who did work on these mods, I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you can find alternative methods for your mods, have a nice day. Edit: Also, pdb files were mostly used for servers, to stop hackers, and to actually find problems inside of the games code, so people could make necessary changes.

I feel like most people who comment on this subject don't play bedrock, bedrock has mcpedl which has an incredible community of creators, for pc we have better render dragon to load "shaders" and on android the "minecraft patch" which does the same thing. Mods were important for servers but it was never something widely used by players, it was a very small community because PC players generally play the Java version, and addons, unlike mods, are cross-platform, so if you create an addon it is much easier run on cell phones, consoles and other platforms (one of the few advantages of bedrock)

This isn't as big as a problem most people are claiming it is, it is still a huge problem don't get me wrong but modding in bedrock was never really huge, the "mods" most people know are called addons which are sold on the marketplace and available for free on sites like MCPEDL or MCBedrock, true these site only work best for PC and mobile. The PDB files was mainly for server modding, to my knowledge, which the default software provided by mojang isn't great and prone to loads of bugs and exploits hackers take advantage of to break the game and make an unfair advantage for other players. This is one example why the PDB files were so necessary, to mod and fix these issues and make the overall experience better. As I have never modded the game using "Amethyst" or any other mods, I only have very limited information about what was truly capable with modding and the PDB files. I would also like to say that removing this is not good at all, it should be restored, I'm just correcting some information about addons and mods, as well as inform about MCPEDL and MCBedrock as for everything I've seen, looks as if many people think the marketplace is the only way to get addons, which is very much false.

I don’t see the downside to this people that really care about mod Minecraft can sell it in the marketplace and earn money for it. I’m 48 years old. I’ve been playing Minecraft since it came out on PC. I now played it on the Xbox series X it’s more economical for a gamer to buy a console nowadays and it is a big PC rig unless you’re born with a silver spoon in your mouth which most families nowadays aren’t I would gladly pay $10-$15 for better on bedrock, RL craft, actions and stuff, and any other big time mod that has been put onto PC and Java. This is a great way for to make extra money and mine coins are so inexpensive that my son can buy it with his allowance. As an adult, I don’t see the downside to this. I only see it as positive.

You misunderstand what PDB files are. These are program debug files, and they store symbols. Symbols act as a link between compiled code and uncompiled code, allowing the debugger to be able to have access to your uncompiled code to say, point you to a line throwing an exception. Because of the nature of .PDB files, they contain a 'skeletal model' of the source code. This schema model is important to modders because it lets them develop code that can interact with minecraft code without having to do a full painstaking effort of reverse engineering the game's code to understand, say, what parameters X function takes. The PDB files are never modified during modding - they are only an important reference to minecraft's source code. However, PDB files are discouraged from production (release) because they provide a window into your source code that can be used by malicious actors looking to, well, modify the game. Think, cheat / hacked clients. Source: 5+ years a software and web engineer

Also to note: Removing the .pdb files is not instant death for mods, it just makes developing the mod apis people use and the mods themselves MUCH more difficult. And with Java edition having such easy mod support, its not hard to see bedrock modding die entirely. but its still possible to use old .pdb files as a reference and reverse engineer new source code, but the amount of time and effort would be beyond painful.

yea at this point im glad i don't play Minecraft as much as before, and this just supports it even more now :/ i played bedrock more than java cause on just how easy it is for modding and the fact it can be played on some pretty old hardware easily is neat too, but now Minecraft doesn't feel the same anymore, mojang doesn't seem to be involved with the community at all and at this point, why even support a game that they hack and slashed to the point where it's only life support might be cutoff,

The marketplace is terrible but at the same time I literally cannot blame mojang for trying to figure out ways to make more money. Minecraft is a one time purchase game and literally everyone has it if no one bought stuff from the market place they wouldn’t be making any money from the game

can't you just download add-on packs from the internet????? also marketplace doesnt have mods they dont modify the game's code, they're maps, texture packs or add-ons
