10:29 I think the items disappeared from your inventory due to how item ids worked pre-1.12. Almost everything that went missing had variants (different woodtypes, colored beds) and after 1.12 they all have their own specific id (i.e. minecraft:yellow_bed), but before 1.12 these variants shared a numeric id, the specific variant was determined using the damage value. Edit: the change to ids happened in 1.13, not 1.12

4:23 that used to be deepslate. deepslate generated in globs, similarly to decorative stones like granite, in 1.17. the reason it's dark is because the lighting didn't update. 10:25 in 1.13, java edition went through something called 'the flattening,' where the internal IDs of many blocks and items were changed. newer versions know how to 'flatten' old IDs, but older versions do not know how to unflatten them. so they disappeared. 12:27 dark yellow just looks green. the newer textures employ a technique called 'hue-shifting' to avoid this. and also because there is just straight-up no instance where non-hue-shifted art can look better than hue-shifted art. 15:35 programmer art. (to clarify, that is the answer to theo's question.) 17:37 theo didn't seem to notice, but the biomes changed here. (to clarify again, i mean the thing that determines grass color and generation, not the actual blocks themselves. since people don't seem to know the difference.) 18:01 that was, in fact, grass path. you can see it at 12:13. 18:09 fun fact! desert wells are technically features and not structures, if i remember correctly. 21:27 that used to be a mesa, which are notably made almost entirely of blocks that were added in the same the same update as them. 23:03 1.2 was the biomes update, which added jungles, which made cocoa beans easier to obtain. cocoa beans were used a lot in older machinimas as poo, so this 'joke' is more fitting than theo probably meant. 24:46 it's probably 'cause minecraft's fog sucks. just... in general. 25:16 there's something so amusing to me about theo crafting a boat at the bottom of the ocean. 29:06 inventory was I in this version. 29:40 java edition handles sound really weirdly, so extremely old versions like this don't have sound when using the new launcher. 30:00 probably unintentional on theo's part, but this track is actually entitled 'Minecraft'. fitting for reminiscing on the late (early?) minecraft (this version of the game predates that title).

1.7 -> 1.8 and 1.12 -> 1.13 were the two major item id updates, so that's why his inventory brokey (1.8 officially changed to item ids instead of id numbers and 1.13 changed the data value system)

The beds, pumpkin seeds, and wood disappeared in 1.12 because in 1.13, they gave each item its own item ID (white_bed, yellow_bed, pumpkin_seeds, oak_planks) where as in 1.12 they still grouped similar items into the same ID using a secondary ID to determine what it was (so all beds were just "bed" all seeds were "seeds" and all planks were "planks") and so because 1.12 dosnt recognize the 1.13 IDs, it deleted them

The reason you lost everything in 1.7, it was the last version with numerical IDs instead of name IDs (which was also the last version you could get fire), so when it went to look at your inventory, for example, it saw minecraft:stone_sword, and it was like "bro tf is that?" and took it from your inventory, because it doesnt know what it is.
