Some tip: If your villager wander around too far from the main path, consider using dirt path instead of stone path. Villager prefer to walk on dirt path instead of others. Additionally, they hate jumping to reach places, so make sure to make a flat path.

I'm currently in the process of buildind a small town, and even though I do have a vision on how it should roughly look like, I don't really mark out anything. The reason is that I don't really know which shape one or the other building would have until I start working on it. The way I do it is I look for some references and inspirations (already existing builds in the community), take notes of what caught my eye, and then basically try to wing it in a creative copy. Though sometimes I still end up following a tutorial or someone's design entirely. When this happens, I leave a sign and credit the author of the original design. Finally, I take tons of screenshots of what I've made in creative and just copy the build block for block in survival.

There's something to be said for letting a village grow organically, especially in a survival world. Build only the structures you need when you need them. Place them based on what the founders at the time would have been thinking. Just remember to keep LOTS of space in between to allow growth.

I would personally try to slowly transition from your custom terrain into regular Minecraft terrain, getting rid of that harsh line and making it more gradual :)

As someone who is preparing to start building cities, are there any mods you recommend? I'm considering getting some sort of furniture mod, decorations mod, and maybe some crop/food mods, just to add some life to the builds. I have one particular question, how do you bring your buildings from creative into your survival world? Surely you don't just memorize the layout? Do you use screenshots perhaps? I've heard of "blueprint" mods that allow you to bring over a "ghost" of a building you've made in creative and then fill it in. Thank you for the video!

That ‘ghost blueprint’ mod is called Litematica! It’s pretty much the only one I use for building (a bit of World Edit too) and it’s really helpful for complicated builds that are tricky to copy from screenshots! :)
