He knows that, that's why he was throwing gold out of his inventory before taking his time to check out the chest. Unfortunately it didn't work, as he points out directly after running away, because of a change in UI mechanics.

it comes up in runs all the time, he meant to throw gold to distract the piglin, but the current version is dumb and doesnt allow you to throw by dragging out of your invintory

He knew that, but you can see him try to throw the gold to distract the pig first but it does not throw because the mechanic changed in some way

generally (from my knowledge) bastions arent *too* popular for runs (as in theyre usually meant as a last ditch effort to save a run), and usually runners will block off piglins in a seperate area for trading if they have to. its been a while since ive been super involved in minecraft speedruns but i *think* thats why
