In my entire Minecraft career (around 6 years) I’ve only used the comparator in a redstone contraption once. On the PS4 edition, I was making a Titanic “mega build” with a friend, and I use a comparator to re-create the anti-flood systems in the Titanic, where if a room filled with water, the doors would shut to stop water from spreading. I used a cauldron, if the cauldron got water in, the iron door would shut.

I'm confused how you guys dont know how a redstone comparator works. Any block that you can interact with except for command blocks can be hooked up to a redstone comparator. Just add a repeater to the back, attach redstone and you can make a secret door or something using a furnace.
