The endermen were steves brothers but the ender dragon cursed them after they flew to the stronghold from the undeads. Because the other enderman thought you created the undeads they left you in the overworld. There are three proves for my theorie: 1. The enderman don't attack you because they got their memory stolen. Only if they look you in the eyes they remember that it's (to their thought) all your fault. 2. Strongholds. Locically they were built to escape the overworld. Silverfish to prevent you from following 3. The advancement "FREE the end" But steve is still trying to free the others from the dragon even though they let him alone. Steve is truly a good guy.

Ok, you can call me a nerd, but hear me out. Steve did nothing wrong because he is controlled by the player. He’s like player from Get A Snack At 4am in Roblox, he has no control of what he does, he’s just a puppet for the player to control. So if the player decides to be evil like this, they use Steve to wreak havoc on the Minecraft world. Also, don’t say I copied the top comment. I came up with this while watching this video.
