One major correction. I dont believe the snake under Yggdrasil is Jormungandr. I believe it is the Nidhogg. I believe jormungandr is the skeleton in the ocean near the spawn. This is because Nidhogg sat at the base of ygdrasil itsf whereas jormungandr encirlced only midgard. Could be wrong though and they could both be representations of the midgard serpent
@MatthewBlakk6 жыл бұрын
Lachlan McLaren yeah I wasn't really sure I went with that being the world serpent simply because it was close to eating it's own tail. So I felt at least it's encircled something, not to mention living
@lach73246 жыл бұрын

very good overall, but Truly I do not understand labeling Hel as an evil goddess. The norse didn't have a very solid system for good or evil, at least not until the myths were Christianized and Ragnarok was added, so personally, I find labeling gods or goddesses from norse myth good or evil to be Not the Greatest, but that is also coming from a norse heathen who works with Hel's father, Loki. but still, overall, very nice!

Ragnorok may have happened before Christianity. Saggas and eddas are a good place to start but there is litteraly a norse um well im gonna call it a bible but yeah i dont know what its called. So after ragnorok the world repopulated right? So the new humans created a new theology similar to the old one that they only had memories of and its possible the similarities between old gods and new gods are spot on or way off. Im going with almost spot on with some names and places changed to protect the identity. Damn freaks in ancient times with there book burning craving so much was lost.

Norse pagan here and I just want to clarify that Helhiem is not the place for murderers helhiem is the afterlife where most Norse pagans go to if they did not die a worthy or honorable death that’s why it’s called the land of the dead anybody who died of natural causes or disease goes there but there is another land that lies on the outside of helhiem and that afterlife in called Nastrond that is the afterlife reserved for murderers thief’s and oath breakers I used to be in a Norse pagan heathen group so I know these things but if you don’t believe me look it up I mean isn’t that why we invented the internet or better yet go buy the sacred book The Poetic Eddas it’s like the Norse bible but overall great video Goodbye may the gods bless you guys in every way possible.

There's something that really confuses me about the nether in the Norse mythology mod? The nether was meant to represent Helheim and Helheim was described as a cold and dark icy world. But the nether in the Norse mythology mod looks more like a actual hell with lava, fire, and magma blocks in it. I don't know why they could've just built the nether a cold wasteland with snow and ice rather than making it more like a hell like how they built the Egyptian mythology nether a river of water. Who knows but it's just my own thoughts
@MatthewBlakk6 жыл бұрын
Michael McGrath for sure.. I mean there's multiple interpretations of hel.. but even so.. the fire and lava shouldn't have been it.. so maybe they were lazy.. or didn't do enough research
@Luka11805 жыл бұрын
True. And in addition, Hel is NOT evil. Yes, she helps the Jǫtnar in Ragnarǫk, but aside from this she isn't really spoken of as evil in any of the sources we have on Norse mythology. Not to my understanding anyway. She may have been described as being stern and cold, and what happened to oath-breakers in her domain is cruel, I guess, but I wouldn't call her evil. Just like Hades in Greek mythology isn't actually evil. If anything she was described as being indifferent to the dead. Perhaps the sources may be interpreted as saying that because she is the daughter of Loki, in the end she takes his side and becomes an enemy of the gods.

My only small problem with the map is that helheim is in the Nether, which is a place of fire and lava like the biblical Hell. Can someone explain to me why Svartalfheim is sometimes called Nidallevir?
@MatthewBlakk6 жыл бұрын
Darkavenger_13 In old Norse stories, the home of the dwarves is called either Nidavellir. Old Norse, Niðavellir, “Low Fields” or “Dark Fields”) or Svartalfheim. Old Norse Svartálfaheimr, “Homeland of the Black Elves”). If either of these names is the “original” one - the name that the Vikings used to refer to the dwarves’ homeland - it’s probably Nidavellir. While both names occur only in relatively late and problematic sources, the first source to use the term “Nidavellir” (the poem Völuspá, “The Prophecy of the Seeress”) is older than the first (and only) source to use the term “Svartalfheim” (Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda). The Völuspá has this (and only this) to say about Nidavellir: There stood in the north In Nidavellir The golden hall Of Sindri’s family. The directions “north” and “downward” were commonly associated with each other in Old Norse literature, and master craftsmen renowned for their work with precious metals would naturally build exquisite halls for themselves, so this description is probably based on authentic material from the Viking Age. (Sindri is a dwarf mentioned elsewhere in Old Norse literature. Not to mention a character in the new God of War Game. Snorri’s descriptions of Svartalfheim, however, are much more confused. For one thing, he - and only he - calls the dwarves “black elves” (svartálfar or døkkálfar).While the boundaries between the different kinds of demigod-like beings were quite blurry in the Viking Age, Snorri’s terminology just introduces an additional and unnecessary layer of complication. The name “Svartalfheim” is an extension of his invented terminology. Apparently based on a misunderstanding of the stanza in Völuspá, Snorri says that “Sindri” is the name of the dwarves’ hall. Snorri also includes Sindri and Nidavellir in his Christian-influenced descriptions of the Norse afterlife and the apocalypse adding yet another layer of unnecessary confusion. This serves as a reminder that Snorri and his Prose Edda can’t be taken at face value as providing reliable information about Viking Age beliefs and practices. Unfortunately, then, we know only the vaguest outlines of what the Vikings thought the homeland of the dwarves was like

MatthewBlakk MatthewBlakk Thanks. Its truly a shame that we dont know more about these things and we only got vague scriptures to help us. Kinda how we know so little about vanaheim :/. AnnetteKnobloch it’s the end.. while I was able to find the nether portal I could not find the end portal so I made one in creative mode.. and went to the end.. which is where you will find the dragon, after killing the dragon there is a small portal that will take you to the end city.. and since it fit best into the lore I decided that that was Vanaheim
@AnnetteKnobloch6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! Does it matter where one creates the end portal? I went over to the Western side. I created an end portal. I got into the end, and the dragon turned read and disappeared. Then, I got a mystical, lengthy message about the player and dreams, that went on and on. I tried to escape to go look something up about that. Then a new version of the game started. Ugh! I ave lots of carefully created maps in that game. I hope all that work is not lost. Obviously, I am very new to the end, and do not even believe in killing dragons. I want to tame them, sort of like Khalessi in Game of Thrones. I have a realm, but this Mash Up does not perform well in a personal realm - it keeps disconnecting. Good news. I did the end portal in a copy of my original. Despite the end, ending, with no end city, when the 'world' is still there, and all the previous work seems to be there.
@MatthewBlakk6 жыл бұрын

Does the endless mystical stream of words eventually end, and then the end city appear?
