Stop using simple campfire: instead use campfire, snow (so you need to be in a cold biome), armor stand, pistons, redstone blocks, grass blocks (so you need silk touch or find 9 endermen with a grass block and kill them) and 8 skeleton head (so you need to kill 8 skeleton with a charge creeper so you need have 8 times the chance to have thunder who fall on creeper or you need to have 1 time that chance and have 8 skeleton who want your dead).
