I thought the twist at the end was going to be about how you could *theoretically* sell those diamonds for that much, but because you have so many, the false scarcity of diamonds would fall apart. And you would lower the value of each individual diamond block by virtue of possessing all the rest. However, if the whole city explodes, I suppose it doesn't really matter whether you could sell your diamond blocks or not.

The individual big chunks of diamond are still going to be worth a ton unless you sell them all. If you sell 64 of them thats still a comodity with only 64 in the world, meaning its going to be extremely valuable. Not to mention the *functional* value of such a large chunk of diamond, I'm almost positive it would be very valuable in high-tech engineering. sure you'r not getting quadrillions out of it, but you'll still end up absurdly rich. Definitely not 'basically nothing'.

@@GoldenBeans As in all things, while the cube of diamond would be stupendously valuable on paper, in reality it can only be sold for as much as someone is willing to pay for it, which will be orders of magnitude lower than the calculations in the video. It will get much worse when you pull out more cubes, because it means you have some way of obtaining more, which massively devalues it in the eyes of a buyer. It ceases to be a marvel and becomes a resource, only worth the profit that can be obtained from its use - and a buyer would pay much less than even that.

@@GoldenBeans This is the reason why Gold would actually be the better and more valuable option. I mean, you can't really do anything with a cubic meter block of diamond, and good luck getting it into smaller, usable diamonds without also obliterating its worth. Gold, on the other hand? Seems like it would have been smarter to take the chest full of Potions of Regeneration to sell to a pharmaceutical company to avoid self incineration. Also as an aside doing all that mining wouldn't have to be nearly that difficult as most people know diamonds only really spawn in a ~10 block seam, and land doesn't really spawn above ~y:60 so "clearing chunks" would be significantly easier to do than it would initially seem in the calculations in this video.

And here I thought you were going to talk about how you could never recover that value from your diamonds since every single block you sell would depreciate the value of diamonds in the world economy, not to mention the difficulty of finding buyers. Afterall, that happened when the king of Mali (iirc) took a trip across Africa and Eurasia giving out gold to show off how rich he was. The value of gold plummeted and severely tanked the gold economy for quite some time.

Mansa Musa. His generosity and/or flaunting (depending on your interpretation) devalued gold so much much that, on the return trip, he bought as much as he could back, at a significant loss, and the value was still in the tanker. Incidentally, he was so massively rich that, even after giving away such fortunes _and_ biying them back at a significant loss, he was _still_ the richest person to have ever lived.

It'd be an interesting follow up episode to discuss what combination of materials one should bring back that would actually net you the most money, devaluation of assets considered. Maybe tnt? At least that thing has inherent utility so bringing over a huge amount of it would still have value. Obviously throw in some diamonds, but even one diamond block would probably crash the entire industry. Even stuff like sand would be highly valuable, since there's a surprising shortage of building-grade sand for concrete construction, though I suppose it has so low inherent value that just 1 chest of it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Interplanar travel devaluates anything you can't take with you. The first thing to plummet would be the value of land on Earth, followed closely by housing. The price of labor would skyrocket, as the entire scenario is a *literal goldrush,* and nobody would work a 9-5 for 30$ an hour if they could make 1,000,000$ an hour mining diamonds in another dimension. Food wouldn't go up much, as there is plenty in the other planes, but clothes, electronics and manufactured/processed goods would spike to reflect the new costs of goods and services in this post-resource scarcity scenario. There would be unlimited raw resources and energy, but signifigantly less labor available what with everyone quitting their dayjobs to become interdimensional diamond miners

He didn't go into the Market forces, You drop that cubic meter of Diamond at an auction and people will not be able to buy it for anywhere near the worth since no one is that rich and that's not even getting into the fact that you show up with 64 perfect copies of a "Rare" item and everyone will think you can manufacture them tanking the price. You bring back a cubic meter of gold and you can easily cut of chunks to sell having as much money as you need / want. Gold has intrinsic value since we use it for chips. Diamond has value because people think it's rare and as soon as you prove it's not, it's not.

@@thesoaringowl9018 Shulker's are an unknown size up to a meter cubed and made of an unknown material that might actually be able to hold that much stuff with our physics. If they are a meter cubed then the box held 27 of them and the explosion was much less (until the Shulker boxes break after flying a distance and causing explosions the same size as the one he described if where they broke...) So either it'd be much safer or WAY more deadly to an entire state if not the country. Worth trying 😜 Go with gold though, the Carbon emissions from a diamond explosion would be bad for the environment and bring no value after the explosion. Gold dust cloud raining down would get scientists to wonder what happened and confuse everyone.

@@nehpets216 Honestly, I’d bring back an alarming amount of diamonds from the Minecraft world if I got the chance specifically to discredit the natural diamond industry.

This vid had so many mistakes. First with the chunks needed to mine, second almost all the math and then this with the shulker chests. Pretty bad imo…

I like to imagine that the villager let you take a chest full of stuff with you hoping it would be super dense and cause some damage when you made it back home.
