For anyone who is having it where the hoppers cannot keep up with the droppers speed and most of your items are getting sent to the overflow chest, set your repeater at: 6:05 to 4 ticks and it should slow it down for the hoppers to keep up but still sort at a comfortable speed! Like for people to see!

Very good observation. I forgot to add the ticks, and what I saw is that new items were not being "digested" properly and being thrown out to the unsorted chest. Very important to add the ticks on that repeater!

Works on 1.20.1, if you encounter any problem, that has to do something with items not going into chests, try to set this repeater 6:06 on 4 ticks (overall sorting will be bit slower, but its unrecognisable).

Also, you will need more to connect, to start and to end. Not that much though. Just a couple hoppers and chests.

Forty torches, but everything else checks out. You'll also need 38 dust for the ground, 44 solid blocks, and 25 slabs- these last three are rough counting so prepare to need more

As for raw materials: 432 planks or 6 stacks+48(108 logs or a stack and 44)[note you'll also need 6 planks for tripwire hooks] 84 sticks, another 42 wood planks[six of these go to hooks, the rest go to torches] 156 iron, two stack and 28 ingots[six go to hooks, the rest is for hoppers] 126 cobblestone, which is pretty much two stacks 48 smooth stone 6 quartz 144 redstone, two stacks and 16, but note this may be inaccurate because it was based on only double-checked counting If you're wondering, 18 redstone goes into droppers, 10 redstone goes towards repeaters, and 78 go towards torches. 20 of those torches then go to repeaters, and 18 to comparators. In terms of iron blocks, its 17 + 3 ingots per module Two to three decent sized dark oak trees will get you enough wood If you have an afk fish farm, you should search your loot for tripwire hooks to save a very very small amount of iron Hopefully I got everything right, I haven't really checked all the way back so if anyone finds an error you should just reply with the corrections

@@HeieiX Good fun, it seams to be due to the hoppers randomtickspeed, I had some more consistency by lowering it from 3. But I don't think there is a vanilla fix, I have seen a few fabric mods that can control the consistency.

A tip for those that like to use 1 chest per type of item, but don't have enough to fill an entire double chest, and want it to look nice and tidy. Color some glass with light gray dye, and make them into panes. Rename the panes "Filler" (or something), and then you spread out those panes one by one in a chest to make it look like there's nothing there, but there is. Sorter will still work, and you can remove the fillers as you get more of whatever item.

Fixes/things to check/tips, for both Java and Bedrock Editions: On Java, Tango's design works near flawlessly, however, Bedrock is a different story. Now though, I've now gotten this working on Bedrock Edition, the main problem being that the top two chests were being ignored. In fixing the Bedrock Edition, I've found some fixes and improvements for the Java Edition. (@fuzzycatball had most of it in reply to another comment) (1) Make sure *BOTH* the repeaters in the clocks at the bottom are on four ticks (6:00 ish), one is necessary, the other slows the system down so equate for server lag, the second one can be ignored if you aren't noticing items ignoring the slots they are destined for. (2) (if on bedrock) Place Blocks above Redstone torches so that they are against the droppers (Bedrock doesn't have quasi-connectivity, thus the droppers only get powered half of the time, causing item loss. (3) For your input, use a trapped chest. This just means that if you accidentally put something into it that you didn't mean to put in, you can take it straight out, and don't need to wait for it to go all the way through the system to get it back. (3.5) On bedrock, you don't need to use trapped chest in the sorting system itself (allowing for my point in (3) ), you can freely place normal chests beside each other. Using them is only going to cause you problems, as opening a trapped chest gives out a Redstone output and stops items going into that chest while it's open. (4) Tango only lightly touches on it at the start and end of the video, but the extra inputs are very very useful, they can help you in keeping lag down (you only activate the module that is needed), in finding problems (if you notice that some modules are dodgy, you can test that one specifically). Not a bad idea to hide them with pistons to minimize the visual impact of even more chests, and so that you only use them when you need them. (5) (bedrock again) Add an extra layer of hoppers and droppers at the top of the sorter. This seems to stop the hoppers ignoring the first chests. I believe it's due to the weirdness in bedrock's Redstone mechanics causing slightly different tick speed from Java, causing the top hoppers to mess up. (6) World edit is a bad idea generally. If you have your first module working fine, but subsequent modules, copy and pasted with world edit don't work, I'm sad to say you're going to need to do it all by hand. By all means try world edit first if you are using it, but be warned. (7) Remember you need to fill *EVERY* slot in the chests. Seeing a lot of people saying it's not working then realising every slot need to be filled up. (7.5) If you use named items, you know that there's not going to be coming through the system and stacking. For one module you'll need 10 stacks and 8 of said named item, personally tend to use plain old cobble and just name it "Sorter", however, if you have enough to spare, Light Grey Glass Panes, are wonderful as they make the slots look empty, again, name them so if some come through the system, they don't get stacked up on these ones. (8) I've found that having 4 modules is ideal 99% of the time, with then several old-school single item sorters to grab excess cobble, dirt, mob drops etc. and put them into a mass storage systems. Ths stops your overflow/unsorted chests from being swamped by items that have been sorted already. Adding to this you can do it that once this system fills, the items overflowing from it are sent to a "bin", thus improving on the lack of rubbish in your overflow/unsorted chests. (Bonus) Have a button somewhere that manually overrides the comparator detection, so that you can flush out any "lost" items. Sorry for the super long and dense post. TLDR -> U has problem, I tries fixing.

I used to use the older version of this sorter. Loved it....hated the noise. So I was excited about this one. Built it up in 1.13.2. Worked great. Except for one thing. I normally dump TONS of stuff into the sorter at once. And I have lots of banks connected together (12 at current count). Eventually, the sorter gets backed up and the droppers start to get more in them than it can handle. The previous system would just keep running and clear it all out over time. But this newer design will get to a point where all the droppers will get clogged up. Nothing moves forward. And I have to manually remove the items out of the droppers so it will get back to working. After tinkering with it for a while, I found a really easy solution. Next to the first dropper, I put in a comparator, (bottom, right, if you are looking from the back). And ran a redstone line to one of the first hoppers that feeds into the system (had to change polarity along the way). So if the first dropper starts to get clogged (items start to stack up in it), the comparitor flips, the hopper is turned off, and the system has a chance to let the clog clear itself. Then when the dropper is back to normal, the comparitor flips again and the hopper turns back on....allowing more items to come into the system. I call it an automatic cut off valve. :) Anyway, since adding it to the design, I haven't had a single clog.

I think you built the input line wrong if that's happening. The input hopper line is supposed to go into the hopper that goes into the first dropper, instead of directly into the dropper. This makes it so the built-in clock automatically stops the input hopper, stopping any overflow.

Still prefer this design over what is commonly used these days, simply because you can allocate more than one item per chest, and put chests for different items right on top of each other, which makes this so much more compact. It makes much more sense than dedicating an entire column of chests to one item type like orange dye or something you simply won't have a lot of but want sorted anyway. Great design, great tutorial! Works perfectly on 1.18.2. *For anyone who is having trouble with their items getting stuck on the second hopper from the top* (next to the left dispenser and the redstone torches which block the hopper) pay very close attention to the solid block placed at 11:08 on top of the redstone torch. Verify that in your build you have a solid block in there *not a slab*

Tested today and yesterday on a server and singleplayer on 1.15.2, works perfectly on singleplayer/creative, however on a server (around 40-50 players) items can skip randomly past their chest, more often then not, so for singleplayer or maybe a small server (Not tested) this is hands down best sorting, but a proper server probably going to have issues, will test with some bigger delays on the clock and see if that sorts it.

I was attempting to connect the output of the farms to the input of the sorting system, and broke the wrong block, opening into water instead of the hopper line.

built this in 1.20.4, still works for those curious. I also wired in an autosmelter for copper, gold, and iron, with a fuel sorter and refiller (it currently uses sticks but you could likely use coal/charcoal easy enough)

Hey Tango, I added my own little piece to this. A Comparator off the Top corner hopper and a Redstone lamp in front of that (which the lamp fits into the front face of the storage column nicely). It allows you to "see" as items are traveling along the hopper chain.

Finally got around to building this, and it's just amazing. A few mods I added, replaced toarces with using Jack-o-lantern blocks, added a indicator light to the overflow chest and replaced the furnaces with a single furnace that empties into the sorter automatically. It's become the room of requirement for me

Corona made me move back home, our bad internet here didnt allow me to play competetive games. due to high ping. After 7 Years of hiatus, i came back to minecraft and found the Hermits. Season 7 is a blast and Decked out is awesome. Been looking for a nice storage system for quite a while now and it can't be a coincidence that out of all designs, i will take this with just minor adjustments. Noice one!

It's working perfectly thanks! I added a few things, lifted the overflow chest to line up to the last row's chets and a system that turns on a redstone lamp to indicate that there are items on it and turns off when you remove them. Also another input adyacent to the main input to place shulker boxes and a lever to stop both inputs to the main storage

A small tip. Glowstone works as a slab so it's a nice light source compared to torches and it's transparent so you won't experience any issues if you include it in some parts of the build. :)

So idk if this a 1.17 problem or an Xbox problem but the torch tower to power the droppers would not work. Fix: if items are stopping in the droppers on the way up about the 5th one put a block in-between the droppers and the tower. But just the spots above the red stone torches. Basically all the droppers we're not getting power causing items to stop flowing up the droppers. Hope this helps took me hours

This design is insane. I've used it since the clicking days lol and there's nothing like it. Just made it in 1.14.4 using "iron chests" mod using gold and diamond chests. All the store I need with ONE MODULE and using silent gems mod, so I have 4 chests devoted solely to gems. Thank you!

Love it! For pocket edition, make sure you use the classic ui, and add blocks above each torch going into the droppers (in Java edition, powering air next to a dropper fires it, but this doesn't work in the C++ version). Also, I found I needed to make the item elevators one higher for the top to chest to work (just add one more hopper to nothing on top of the hoppers to nothing on the top. Very minor changes. Also, accept that you will always have 4 items per module stalled in the droppers, due to a slight timing bug in droppers.

One thing I noticed, and would be crazy easy to implement, add a hopper to the side of the input chest so you can shift click place a shulker box on it. it will empty the shulker for you while you are gathering other resources, or what have you. just Place the shulker and go! come back and break the shulker when empty. (I just considered something.. use a switch to turn off the hopper before you break it so you dont have to wait for it to shuffle through to the overflow chest)

Daniel Moirangthem yes, I can simplify. If you break a shulker that is placed on a hopper it will most likely get sucked into the hopper before you can grab it. So, if you place this inline with this system you will have to wait for the shulker to go all the way through before reclaiming it. To prevent the box from being sucked in you just have to "power the hopper" (youll hear that alot with redstone) by placing a lever next to the hopper and flicking it. when you power the hopper it will prevent the hopper from sucking your shulker into the system when you break it. look up a "shulker bulk storage system" and youll see how a broken shulker will get sucked into a hopper. Just power the hopper before you break it and you can reclaim the shulker right away. hope this helps!

Hi Tango Tek! Thought you might find this kind of interesting, and for anyone needing to do this without comparators. The modded version of minecraft that I am playing has at the moment no access to quartz, so no comparators. So I had to find a workaround for your design having a comparator clock extender for the droppers, and also the "item exists" clock at the bottom of the dropper towers. To do that I used 4 pressure plates. Two (one for redundancy) for detecting when a player goes to the chest to drop items into the sorter, and two more, one each for their own separate circuits, one of which feeds off the other in order to create a 10 minute clock working off item despawns. Unfortunately I had to adjust my version's timings because for some reason it wouldn't work at the speed yours was set to, so lots of clicking for 10 minutes while all the items get through the system at a bit of a slow speed, but heck it works :D without comparators

Check to make sure that the block over the 2nd torch you place in the tutorial (about 5:43) is a solid block. I had half slabs and mine behaved like yours

For anyone wondering, this works perfectly on an 1.15.2 server. We even made it 16 block high (although it needed some modifications so that the redstone signal could reach that high). This is honestly the best thing we've built, and i feel like it actually saved time, even if it took a lot of time to tweak and build.

I discovered i had placed the bottom 4 comparators the wrong way around and forgot to place that one piece of redstone ontop of the first hopper (the lowest one between the two dropper pillars). Fixing those two things made it work again. hope it helps

With the later versions you can set up a clock type setup using 2 hoppers facing into each other to create a silent astable, monostable, or bistable pulse that used to only be possible using blocks that made noise. The setup in this video works but as of recent updates (13w01a) you can use hoppers to create a silent and stable clock pulse input into any redstone circuit that is far simpler and more efficient than what has previously been possible

Has anyone built this in 1.16.4 and has it work?? I’ve built it a few times in previous versions and never had issues! But I’ve just built it in 1.16.4 and the items aren’t going into the chests. They’re basically going through all the hoppers and out the other side into the output chest!! Any ideas?

I found that I had two extra redstone torches, and I also had some solid blocks misplaced alongside the stack of hoppers (I think it was these blocks that did me in).

Nice system, compact, easy to use, silent and lag friendly!!! On the other hand, it is VERY slow and harly useable for items you got ton of - f.ex. connecting any high output farm to this system would be deadly! I suggest use this system for items you use alot, but dont have ton of them. Connecting it to classic sorting system with water stream and item buffers prior to sending items to this system would be wise. I prefer to run the items fast through a classic system sorting out items like stone, cobble, andesite, farms output etc and than run it into this system. You save ton of time and space.

well obviously it's not meant for any high output farms its just a personal storage system where you can store all kinds of things. If you want an item sorter for any kind of farm I would always just recommend Impulse's design

I'm running into an issue. I built this system with 8 modules. The first 3 work fine. For the following 5 modules, the hoppers are getting locked for some strange reason, and consistently pushing items into an open space in the next available chest. For example, if I load in 64 blocks, 51 will end up in the correct place, and 13 will move on to the next available chest... 100% of the time. That's a high failure rate. I feel like it has to do with the clock not pulsing correctly, and I have made the adjustment of 4 ticks as suggested here to the repeater at 6:05. This didn't do anything. Does anyone have any other ideas for what is going on?

I think I had a similar issue where all my items skipped over a single chest for some reason, it was fixed by switching the "dot" of Redstone to the "cross"

@@Tayis991 If I remember correctly, I figured out my problem after many hours of checking the system! I had run the hopper input line directly into the dispenser as opposed to the hopper before it, and that solved the issue. It's always something silly like that hahaha

Im in 1.16.1 and I have followed every step and checked three times. Everytime an item goes through the dropper elevator, the redstone torches dont turn off to unlock the hoppers. The items get stuck in the top hoppers or the first top chest.

I had the same problem and realized that I hadn't activated the pulse extender. It should be activated once with a lever or button or something and then it stays always on. This should get your clocks going and the torches should alternate on/off

Had that problem when I had covered the top. Don't cover the top anywhere close to the redstone. It will mess with the system. Covering the sides seems fine though.

NOT working in 1.15.2! 1. System is not capable of sorting everything (although both repeaters between 5:50 and 6:04 are on 4 ticks 2. lower 4 chests get skipped for whatever reason 3. built the system several times, sometime it worked more or less and sometimes items get stuck in droppers for no reason whatsoever. downloaded the map, same issues. an updated version would be fya! @Tango Tek

Having the same problem. Just finished creating this. Although the space i created only accomodated 4 double chest per column. I thought that was the problem but since you're also having the same problem. I also want to know what's causing this.
