Minelab Equinox Target Tones How-To. Plus a 50 Tone Secret Weapon!

Minelab Equinox Micro Session #9: Hey guys thanks for joining me in this video. This will be another Micro Session Video covering the Minelab Equinox 800 and 600 Metal Detector. In this video I'll show you how to change the target tone/pitch of the Equinox. Also, there is a little hint later in the video about using 50 tones. I’ve looked like that guy, with the NOX 800. That 800 drove me crazy or I drove myself crazy. Tweaked myself right out of it. Bought a 600, and can’t hurt myself with it. Nice vid.

Like running the 900 in all tones and the 6 inch coil was a game changer i have some old home sites on my property and when i first got the 900 i hated it! Was just going crazy and could not pinpoint anything specific. 6 inch fixed everything

I think when you use 50 tones your using more of the processor ! You get better identification, more precise tones for different targets. Makes the machine work more like the Sovereign GT which was my favorite machine of all time. Do a coin test penny through quarter in 5 tone then do test with 50 tone. You will see a big difference !

On the 50 tones setting you can alter the tone pitch of each tone region as long as each pitch is higher than the previous one. For T1 ( ferrous ) minelab recommend you set the volume tone level to 0. Field 2 in the advance setting will allow you to do these things.

I’ve pretty much switched to 50 tone for every setting other than a “coin shooting” user profile. For me it’s easier to have a repeatable or standardized tone for something throughout all the modes I may be in. I set both the park modes to 50 tone, FE 0, and recovery 5. Field modes are 50 tone, FE 0, and recovery 3. (Still playing with F2 settings ). At a site, I like to sweep the area(many many times) in the park modes with higher recovery, then re-detect the same area in the field modes with lower recovery. To me the most important thing is audible consistency between modes.

Great comment. I did a video on the iron bias settings if you want to check that or maybe you did already but I don't go above 4. Seems to be the sweet spot for the NOX.

@@MentalMetal yes I’ve watched it a few times. You’ve really helped me understand this machine. Also Ive experimented with the bin 2 tone settings on 50 tone. I went up and down and ended up back at 20 probably because it’s what I was used to hearing. I encourage anyone to try different numbers though. You may end up finding that tone range that works best for your ears.

On a new field tomorrow, and I'm going to give 50 tones a bash. I've just tested it on a air test on lots of artifacts and roman and hammys ,sounds good ,I could not use it on the ctx 🙃

@MentalMetal went out today .All I can say is WOW its bought the 800 to life ,I kept the iron off and turned up the threshold a bit to use that an indicator for iron and you can still hear a bit of a crackle when you hit iron ,it seems to go deep and the separation is far better ,I used your 50 tones with the other adjustment and I love it ,I could not get on with 50 tones on the ctx but on the 800 it's great ,I put the ground balance on 0 and used it on field 1 ,the depth I was getting on small bits of rolled up foil was nuts ,we have to dig them as it's the same as small roman artifacts and cut hammys ,had a few georgain coins and pre des coins and loads of bits and bobs in a very iron infested field ,it was a new field but I can't wait to try it on our roman and hammy fields ,also had it on target separation 3 and swang slow ,thanks again buddy 👍👍👍

I've tried the 50 tones but can't get used to the melody of tunes. I guess I'm stuck on 5!

50 takes some time getting used for sure but 5 is good as well.

What do the numbers in the different sectors represent?

They are your default tones when you select 2 or 5 tones. You can only go up to 25. If you pick 50 that's a completely different thing Minelab does. Even though it appears to only have 2 tones/sectors, those sectors internally are doing something different with freq ranges etc. so you will hear more tones but the illusion is that you only have 2 sectors to change. I haven't messed around with changing the sectors and whether or not it does anything drastic to the 50 tones. I will this weekend.

1 to 25 is for volume not a tone. T1 t2 t3 excet is you high or low tone then the volume of that tone is 1 to 25 max

Perhaps but other prefer 50, I just recently started to use it again because I like 5 but 50 with the slight modification does make a difference IMO. Thanks for the comment.
