In this video, I took the NEW Minelab X-Terra Pro out to my test garden and ran it over 16 targets that have been buried for almost 2 years in the ground. The performance of this cheap beginner metal detector is utterly amazing. You have to watch all the way to the beach programs to see how Beach 1 and 2 do on land! The things i really like about that machine is its waterproof, its got that Pro-Switch which allows to change frequency at the touch of a button, all the other options(multiple tones, recovery speed, etc) that red backlight is awesome. I plan on using the machine here in Michigan at the beach's and swimming holes. I know it can run at 15khz in freshwater😊 Great for GOLD

I think this would be a great machine for my grandson to swing. He is five and loves to guess the target ID’s with me when we watch videos together. I will probably change the coil to my six inch Equinox coil to make it easier for him to use. Thanks for the demo. Happy Easter everyone!

I just saw a Simplex Ultra outperform the X-Terra on depth by a lot. So I`m seeing very conflicting information from test to test. Makes no sense. Calabash had an X-Terra that was hitting coins at 15 inches but the one I saw was struggling on 8 and 10 inch coins with very unstable audio. But the Simplex Ultra was slamming on the same targets. Maybe get both? I don`t know.

@@baneverything5580 Seen that video, I agree! The older 12 MHz Simplex has slightly better depth but at $269 I ordered the X-Terra Pro to have both. My $199 Quest X10 Pro is very similar to the Simplex, check it out.

I was ready to hit the order button for one of these until I got a response from Minelab today concerning the battery. I ask the service department at Minelab, since all rechargable batteries will have to be replaced at some point, and this model has a "built-in" battery pack, can I get a replacement? Minelab states they do not have replacement battery packs fot the X-terra for sell or supply to anyone, including dealers. They said it is covered by their 3 year warranty if a problem occurs. They did not respond to me asking what to do after the warranty expires, specific to whether I could pay for getting this done at their facility. Does this make it a "disposable detector" since its questionable if you can get a replacement battery pack after the warranty expires? I tend to keep my detectors a long time andwould like to think ot would be working longer than 3 years.

I understand you wanting to keep a machine for a long time but I think if you asked all the other vendors, they would give you the same answer. I've had my 800 for over 3 years with no issues. If you need to get the battery replaced they are going to replace the entire head unit anyway. I wouldn't let this issue keep you from pulling the trigger.

Even tho the X-Terra Pro has a one inch smaller coil then the Equinox it still performs better, why pay more :-). 12" x 9" coil vs an 11"

Your target coins are at the same depth(A standard depth,) that ALL detectors hit on. You should rebury everything at '15 inches'. This is where this unit actually hits. Also I don't really need testing on 'ground junk', like bottle caps, etc, unless demonstrating discrimination.

Thanks for the thought but 15" I think its a little more than I care to see and I've tested this machine and it doesn't get 15". You might get that on the beach but not in my ground. I'm more interested in tones and target IDs so when I mess around with the settings I want to see the impacts to the machine. Thats why I have the test garden I have. Thanks for the idea though.

X-Terra is 100% waterproof the 540 is not. The 540 has multi-IQ the X-Terra does not.

What was your sensitivity set at for the tests? I'm finding I can run the sensitivity pretty hot on the beach after noise canceling.

I don't know what the defaults are but I've been running it at 23 with no issues.

If you want to use wireless/Bluetooth headphones, get a quality low latency Bluetooth transmitter and get the Nokta Legend headphones. I have no intention to through another 160 bucks at Minelab once they finally decide to get their asses in gear and sell the ML-85. After all, they had to screw all the folks that own ML-80s.

Physically the X-Terra is made better but it lacks the multi-IQ that the Nox 800 has being a multi-frequency detector. The X-Terra is only a single freq VLF machine.

Well you can't change the freq from 8 kHz so I'm not sure what you need to see to believe. Unless you are assuming something else is happening under the hood.

Im not sure why minelab would consider making the unit a equinox without the multifrequency all the time. selective frequency is ok but when you already have the equinox 600 or 800 this is nothing new. Still hard to beat my old reliable excal and cz21
