I got into gold prospecting a few years ago as a hobby. This has "naturally" led to a interest in geology. Thanks for making some of these beginner concepts fun :)

Thanks for this clear explanation. There are a lot of people who are confused about the differences between rocks and minerals (and how elements fit into the picture), so perhaps a quick video that expands on these concepts would be helpful to complement this one. Thanks!

Very well done. I have a some new mods for Minecraft that add mineral and rock types so I needed mineralogy and geology 101. Thanks. :-)

Just „discovered“ your channel (- the algorithm will surely send more people your way soon). Geology seems interesting (- and you are easy on the eyes.) The only geology I know so far is from Randall Carlson, but most of his content is around the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis, but that is very specific (and usually in very long-form podcast). I hope you stick to the basics for a while and maybe „delve deeper“ later when it comes to more specific themes. Maybe you‘ll end up with multiple formats. I’m looking forward to more videos.

I got two questions: is rock licking really something you guys do and how were the alkaline metals separated from each other chemically?

Well done. Unlike me, you don’t ramble. Naturally occurring can be a bit ambiguous I did a video on that.

nice video! do you have thoughts on the ice-as-a-mineral debate? I've heard it go either way. also, an overview video about the crystal habits and why they matter would be cool

thank you! and I thought about including that topic (ice-as-a-mineral debate) in here but I refrained. All of the official geology/mineralogy pages I've seen all say ice is in fact a mineral, and I remember learning that in my very first mineralogy class and it really stuck out to me! I personally agree with the argument that ice is a mineral, mainly because ice has such a huge impact on so many geological processes - glaciers as the main example. Also, it wouldn't really fit into the mineraloid category either since it definitely has a crystal structure. Very interesting! I think it's always fun to have debates on topics like this and science wouldn't be science without a little (or a lot) of debate! Also, I plan on doing a crystal habits video in the future - so i'm glad you suggested it.

Humans are animals, and the things humans make are animal byproducts, like beaver dams, and are natural.
