One of the most abundant minerals on Earth, quartz is anything but ordinary and some of the most extraordinary quartz comes from Arkansas. Veteran mineral dealer Thomas Nagin explores its metaphysical side and a long-closed local curiosity, The Crystal Cave. We meet a cast of characters at the World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig and watch as a newly discovered pocket of quartz is extracted at the renowned Coleman Mine.

I found a 40-50 lb chunk of druzy quartz cluster, brought it down a mile of mountain, and I set it outside the house. The next day I went to check and a bird was sitting on it. When I walked up to it, there was also a toad sitting under the side of the crystal cluster. I think there is really something about the crystals.

I used to have a large terrarium with geckos,scorpions , a tarantula and horney toads. In others I had rattlesnakes, gopher and a python.( Separate ones of course) Anyway, each creature has different times of the day when they are active with some being nocturnal of course. I had been given some large quartz pieces by a friend and thought they would look great in my habitats. So I placed several in the terrarium and one with each snake. Just for decoration. What happened next just blew me away. Within the hour EVERY SINGLE CREATURE was active and congregating around the crystals. Some laying on them even. Others like the snakes moving over them then resting by them. It was the damnedest thing I've ever seen. I ended up taking them out because I felt I was interrupting their natural cycle but have never forgotten that moment. There is definitely something powerful in crystals.

I live in NW Tennessee, across the Mississippi River from NE Arkansas and SE Missouri. I appreciate the Abundant Natural Resources in Arkansas and their Clear Fresh Waterways, I'm in a Muddy Waters Environment. It is worth the ponder when folks, never having been to the state, judge it and the people. Know this, "definitive ignorance knows no geographic boundaries, and I assure you, Tennessee and Mississippi, actually would qualify for the jokes and judgemental accusations every bit as much, *if not far more, than Arkansas.* ...but, it is a Wise Mind that makes a habit of Conscious Thought + applied the Higher Mind, and there is no judging coining on in Higher Minds. ... be Happy *Excellent Video Documentary, much appreciated.*

Yay! Quartz is my favorite mineral! I have wanted to get back to Mt. Ida for the past two years, but because of COVID, I have had to pass. I have been there 8 times and I so want to get back there to dig for crystals. I hope I can meet you some day at the crystal festival! It is so much fun to share the joy of quartz with others.

Life goal: go to the US and dig for crystals! I just love the fact that so many mines in the US are open for the public, I would spend my whole vacation digging for crystals if I could!

Thanks for the answer about crystal formation. I find lots of small quartz crystals where I live and wondered if there are bigger ones in the same area, don't seem to be. There are pay-to-dig sites in Arkansas for big quartz. There is free digging for smoky and amethyst in the Mojave desert where I live but it involves some rugged mountain climbing.

I watch your videos and think,, I want to go all those exotic places to search for minerals, but realize that those trips may be a little difficult to achieve, but now I'm looking forward to going to Arkansas. I can do this one. Maybe even go to the competition. Thanks for the videos

I've always wondered, are the larger quartz crystals older? Or just the conditions determine the crystal size?

Great Question!!!! Has anyone answered You back on this yet?? I'm curious about this as well...
@lindasaav7364
@lindasaav7364 Жыл бұрын
Jim From Mars and C-Dubb. I'm a geologist and from what I've learned from my studies it's the conditions that determine the crystal size, not only for quartz but for all mineral spieces. For example more room for growth can give bigger crystals as long as the elements in the fluid, Si and O in the case of quartz, doesn't deplete too quickly. Also it's believed that a slower cooling process creates bigger crystals. With a quick cooling process you also usually don't get any good crystal shapes. So it's a combination of conditions that all need to line up. Hope this answered your question.

Within my Tsalagi = Cherokee tribe the healers of my tribe would take clear quarts crystals with no imperfections in it and would place it on the forehead of a tribe member and if it goes from being clear to a cloudy look then it ment that they had a fever. So quartz crystals were used as the first thermometers.
