@@karenbartlett1307 All hat and no cattle. I spent many weekends in that area in the 1960s. Grandpa bought 100 acres or so for 50 bucks an acre. We used to stop at a store, it was really just a shack, on Mines Road. It was Crowley's 14 Mile House. That is what we called it. Farther on up past the turn to go up to the older place on Eylar Mountain there was a bar called Ruth and Jerry's Brandin' Iron. There were brands all over the walls. If it is still there you can find grandpa's brand, a simple "M K"if I recall. There was a wood frame "cabin" grandpa and his cousins built on a hillside so it had a second floor sleeping porch on Eylar Mountain proerty. Mostly it was a deer hunting get away and sometimes cattle, just a few. I was only 7 around the time I hiked around the those woods. Ponderosa pines and manzaneta trees. The pine trees had mistletoe I would cut and sell back in the city at christmas time. Tie a red bow on a sprig and sell each for 10 cents door to door. I was an idiot, 10 cents or 2 for a quarter. An old man yelled at me and slammed his door once upon hearing my price! We moved out of state in 66 and I never saw that place again. It burned down at some point I heard and my heart broke. Sleeping on that porch one summer I was treated to meteor showers every night. What a sight to see!
