I felt sorry for Dr. He, standing there watching MingLan's marriage parade, while his 'wife' stood next to him. He lost because he didn't love MingLan enough to make a stand...just like YanRuo; both men lost...big time! The good news is, MingLan was strong in her convictions and never lost sight of her goals for a good life. She had to fight like hell to get it!

And she is better off without them not because they didn’t love her but because they could never have been able to whether the trial that were going to happen in her life. I was so disappointed when they had Yan Ruo and then Dr. He as people of interested and Gu married to that evil bitch because I already matched her and Gu Tingye up since they were young. He was and is the only one who understood her and saw her true self and those other two guys could not or would never have been able to make it possible for Ming lan to blossom and bloom.

She did have feelings for yan rou but he was so cautious that by the time he took action he had no power and no courage. Even with his second uncle saying that he would help him he didn’t take action. She married him because she saw strength, conviction and courage in Gu Tingyue. She has known him since her childhood and seen how he had helped her when no one did. Of all the interaction she have had with all three guys, he was the only one who saw her truest self where she wasn’t demure or culture. Yan lost because he was too slow in deciding and Dr. He lost because he was too caring of his family relation. Gu won because he saw her true worth and he knew what he wanted and wasn’t about to lose it because of small petty things.

The second Uncle Gu could of been like a great friend to Minglan not husband, I haven’t finished watching the show and I will not since she ended up with that fool. Yuan Ruo pursued Ming Lan first. He slowly convinced her with endless promises that he could take care of her and that could be together. Yet when it came time to actually fulfill those promises, he failed. He didn't have the courage to stand up against the princess. He didn't even have the courage to ask Gu Tingye to fight for him and Ming Lan. He didn't have the courage to accept Gu Tingye's offer either. He didn't even have the courage to prevent his mother from beating his servent, Bu Wei, to death by throwing himself in front of the whip or fighting the whipper. Ultimately he was too wishy washy. Being the son of a noble family, be believed he could get his way if he just asked. He didn't understand what was blocking their way, and he didn't understand how to either prepare for it or maneuver around it. When he didn't get his wishes, he caved under the pressure. Like the story of Yang consort that Gu Tingye brings up, Yuan Ruo abandoned Ming La when the choice was between her and his own family. He should have never made those promises to Ming Lan if he couldn't fulfill them. He was too naive to the world around him and his place in it. He ended up putting Ming Lan in a cruel situation and he could do nothing to fix it. All he could do is be apologetic to her after the fact. Gu Tingye didn't make any brash promises to her. He set out to win her by fighting for her, literally and metaphorically. He didn't come to Ming Lan until he was sure he could
