Thanks for the comparison, i'd go with the firemaple for the beefier construction if i had to go ultralight LOL

I have had the BRS for a few years now and haven't used it as much as you likely have but I haven't had any issues with bent arms myself. For the $15 CAD I spent on it I really can't fault it at all.

Great review! love the boil times. I have been curious about that. Haven't done it myself yet. I have used two FMS stoves. Both were mounted crooked to the base. They sent me the second one when the first was crooked. Also the Firemaple leaked my whole canister into the bear locker overnight despite me closing the valve. I keep the canister attached if I am just going to use the stove again in the morning. I've been using the BRS for a few years now and never had any issues. My other Firemaple stove is awesome. I love it. FMS 116T.

The BRS 3000T support arms are made of Titanium. Grab a pair of pliers, turn on the stove until that arm gets red hot, then carefully twist it back enough to straighten it out. Bending these isn't all that easy, but they are at their weakest when they are cherry red from heating up something. If anyone gets rough and bangs on the pot or arm, it can bend. Again, if it bends, it's easy to straighten back out. The support arms being made of titanium makes them pretty durable. That said, most stoves will bend when the arms are red hot... One last thing... It's nice to see someone being REALISTIC about boiling water. The key people should be considering is how many grams of fuel are needed to boil at the lowest flame you can use in whatever your wind conditions are. The lower the better. For instance should be something like 10 boils per canister or 8 boils per canister... The key to backpackers should not be how fast things can boil, but how much fuel is necessary to get the water to boil with a reasonably low flame. Most stoves are generally most efficient (fuel-wise) on low flames, in my experience... The weakness of the BRS 3000T is that it isn't very good in wind. Flatcat engineering makes a really good ultralight windscreen specifically for this stove. With that windscreen, the stove is very reliable even in wind, and still weighs less than the firemaple with the stove and windscreen!

Thanks for doing a comparison between these two, I'll plan on buying some kind of smaller stove for the next season. The arms on the fire maple are a bit stronger like you said but they look like they get a lot hotter than the brs which has its arms more spread out and out of the way of the flame. I'm currently leaning towards getting a SOTO Amicus over these two, though it is substantially more expensive

Really great video. I would choose the BRS though based in a few observations. - the first boiling you didn't wait for the Fire Maple to boil. It would probably use a little more fuel. Could be negligible though. - the biggest obs is the distance between the flame base and the pot base. It's a lot higher on the fire maple. This will probably make a big difference when you add any wind. One test I would suggest would be to put a swinging fan with a very mild wind blowing the stoves. I think that would be a controlled environment closer to average use in trail.

I have watched this vid a couple times... it appears that whichever stove had the lighter cup boiled first, how did the BRS win? Seems like you have equal performance with a choice, light weight and flimsy or light weight and durability! I have both and I prefer the Firemaple. The overall quality is far superior and the stove is reliable. I haven't had any problems with the BRS and typically take it for quick overnights, but more than a couple nights and I take a little bigger cup(MSR Titan kettle)... better for cooking oatmeal that's not instant! The larger pot on the Firemaple is more stable. Just my opinion.

The best stove is the one you can afford, works well, and is reliable. I e had an off name one for 4 years now and it works like the day I first got it.

Good video comparing these two, I have the BRS 3000 and the 750ml Toaks cup for more than 5yrs. they are great, no deformation on my BRS. Not sure why someone would pick Fire Maple Stove, less performance, double the price and almost double the weight!?

Nothing like cooking on an open fire. For years I took my kids camping on a single mum's buget and I always cooked on an open fire. Best spaghetti sauce ever!!! Lol

Seems like the burner might handle wind a bit better.

I have a question that has been bothering me for a long time and I can't find the answer. On the one hand, I keep reading/hearing that the cartridge should not be exposed to high temperatures. On the other hand, the burner (especially the one screwed onto the cartridge) heats up to very high temperatures and is in direct contact with the cartridge. The problem especially concerns small burners from China, such as the BSR3000. I always have concerns and fear in the back of my mind. Please explain.

The solution is that Ti is not a great conductor of heat, so the heat does not conduct down to the canister. People also have way overstated the problem with chimney/windscreen heating the canister. My experimental experience is that BRS with chimney and 900 mL of water will boil fine without heating the canister. I use minimum setting, so it takes just slightly longer but is also quieter. Note my set-up has a vented deflector plate between flame and canister.

The BRS or other knock of burner stoves just work and are so light. You just keep an eye on the wear of the store, buy and pack a spare if you think the stove is getting a bit out of spec. Campers could roll with 2 and probably not notice the weight and they're almost pocketchange to buy.

They're hard to beat. I feel the same way about inexpensive, off brand gear, especially if it's not critical. I'm tired of paying just fro brand names, especially when they don't offer good after sales service.

I do carry a spare BRS in my emergency kit. I had one break 4 years ago (main body of stove broke with a pot on it). My current-design chimney/windscreen supports the pot now so that 'shouldn't happen.'

Great video, thanks for putting it together. I want to do a similar test with my Jet Boil to see if the heat exchanger design improves efficiency. It sure seems to, but your results are similar to what I anecdotally get in the field (about 4-5 days per small canister).

The JetBoil is definitely fast and efficient. I just find it too bug and bulky.
