I was about to do this on my remote which looks just like this. I mostly take my Mini on short 20min runs to do shopping twice a week so the remote is now starting to act up. I'd take the car into town then it wouldnt lock the car id have to do it manually. Then I read you can charge them via a toothbrush charger and by chance we had one. It was awkward sitting the remote on it because of the shape of the charger but it actually worked! It didnt last long unfortunately, the battery needs replacing. Try charging it first and leave it on it overnight.

@DarknEssMGs2 жыл бұрын
The batteries charge from the ignition by default, so you might have a faulty ignition. Also general pro tip - if you have a spare key with a rechargable battery you should use it a couple of times a year so the battery doesnt "bottom up", eg die prematurely. Youll probably not know if a key a has a rechargable one, but a rule of thumb is everything related to bmw, mini, land rover might have one.

@@sshaunss its not a scam in itself, most car keys have single use batteries that last 2 years as a rule of thumb, rechargable ones last 10-15 years, are also sealed shut so less chance of water damage, well, untill you break the buttons. And pretty much anything non japanese with a single use battery has a nasty chance of desynchronizing from the car, which isnt really a problem, but i guess in england it will cost you an arm and a leg to sync again given that a rechargable bettery change is 100 quid. Id say the rechargable battery model is more user friendly, you buy the car and forget about the key, chance is youd replace the car before the key will bother you, tho 100 quid is a bit too much

What was the reason for putting on a new case, or wouldn't the battery charge anymore? When unsoldering like that I heat the solder and using an air nozzle and quick puff of air I blow the melted solder away.

You can reuse the old case. The original case was old, scratched and grimy.. and had super glue all over it. I highly suggest keeping your original cut key blade, and popping it into a new fresh case.. makes it all feel good and legit

Quick question. Why did you replaced the battery? Did it stoped working (opening and closing the doors). The old battery was not recharging anymore? Please let me know because i think this is what it’s happening to my fob. I have a 2008 clubman s and it does. It close all the doors or opens a only the front but don’t unlock the back left door trunk (behind the driver ) it started today
@IntegraDIY Жыл бұрын
It wouldn’t charge anymore, keyless entry stopped working. Got annoying having to manually lock and unlock the doors. I don’t think your battery is dead, because it won’t be able to function at all, but it’s not working unlocking the rear doors, so it seems like a bigger issue. If it was a dead battery, it won’t unlock or lock at all

Excellent video well done mate. I notice a few are stating they state an easier way just popping open the case, that is ONLY do able on a completely different fob, SADLY BMW designed this fob uniquely hard to change a £4 battery and crazy ! The only way IS as stated by carefully cutting open the remote case with a blade as described so well done poster. This remote battery only operates the lock and alarm, if it fails open car with the metal key and place the remote body in the remote holder in the car and the alarm will stop and car will start and carry on as normal. BMW sadly avoid instructions on replacing the remote batteries which is obvious by its absence, I believe they hope everyone will just buy a new car every 5 years ! We purchased a new mini and only ever used one key fob, sadly the second fob battery died. What instructions they do give is make sure you use the remote twice per year however they fail to explain why, which obviously means the batteries go flat unless charged. JUST BE CAREFUL USING THE CUTTER.

@IntegraDIY3 жыл бұрын
I’d say they last 8 to 10 years considering they’re always getting recharged during a drive, and after a while the cell dies. My mothers mini is a 2009 so it lasted 8 years. I don’t think mileage plays a part since her car has 89k miles so it doesn’t matter how many miles it’s been on the road. You still have a good while before your battery won’t hold a charge 👍

@@IntegraDIY Fair enough. Let me ask a different question. Does the car’s owner’s manual have the instructions on how to replace the fob battery? And the reason I’m asking is because I went to youtube trying to figure out how for a 2011 MINI which belongs to my daughter. We don’t have the manual for that car. However, for my 2015 mini the manual has the instructions. The fob is opened with the key. etc. So maybe I need to search for her car’s owner’s manual online to see what the instructions say for her fob. I just found your instructions odd for a moment because I can’t picture that being in the owner’s manual, and since BMW makes the car then they should have instructions on how to do this. That’s what I meant. 🤓
