On the later models (mine is UK 2006) there is no need to move the cluster surround as the pillar pieces drop down once the screws have been removed, and can be moved sideways sufficiently to reove the head unit... Hope this helps some folk

Great video! I wasn't sure about doing it on my own, but professionals were going to charge me a lot. So, I took my time, bought the right harness, screw driver, watched the video over & over again, in sections, as I disassembled it. I was nervous. The hardest part was soldering the wires! But it turned out to be just fine. Nonetheless, it was a complete success! I am able to listen to well over 5 thousand songs stored on an SD Card! Thank you so very much for your straightforward explanation! I will take the sound of rain the background any time over the loud, ear-shattering music others have.

Thank you- I was going to force the mirror/heated seat control out and remove the bottom tray- like in another video. Removing the trim @ the speedometer was much easier.

I don't know my Mini Cooper Base 2003 is completely original but the dash column screws are not T20's, they are T40's so double check your vehicle or get a full set of T's.

My 2002 mini doesn't have a glove box but the part of the dash you took off is right by the air bag , can you take it off without disturbing the air bag ?

Probably already figured this out, but if not, the cheapest simplest solution is to get yourself a Bluetooth fm transmitter from your favorite local store's auto section or electronics depth. Then just tune into the same frequency displayed on this new device, and your music will be in its own radio station!
