My old pin was well seized ,removal of old pin/Bush was a fiddle , I ground off peened end and hacksaw thru the gap of other end to remove the swivel bracket to allow better access, I still had to use dremel grinder to compromise the pin to use hammer and punch to partially collapse it to remove it , care must be taken as bracket and housing are alloy and are easily damaged/twisted in vice whilst encouragement with punch and blunt instrument (yes I did ), i restraightened the bracket and a quick clean up with files and with regrease and new pin slid in , I loctited the grub screw and washer , refitted unit and now a lovely slick change with nice sloppy neutral, good vid for reference 👍, new pins on the bay of e for £8

worked like a champ. Thanks for the video! mini shifter smooth as silk now. Only difference is I didn't remove the assembly out of the transmission.... I changed the pin right where it's at. In hindsight though... it was probably harder that way lol
@GrahamHazlehurst5 жыл бұрын
It's really easy to remove the assembly though, looks terryifing when it in your hand, looks like you wrecked the gearbox but slides back in nicely.👍

Hi, thanks for the video. It was really tough for me turning it counterclockwise out of the gearbox you really have to use some force. but i managed. i was just wondering 2 things. 1) is the new pin supposed to be tight in place? I saw you use vice grips to push it in, mine just slid right in. 2) did you have to use a washer to hold it in place as well? The little screw was smaller than the hole the pin fits in. it seemed kind of pointless. Im not really sure if this did anything for my car but Thanks again for the video

What is the bolt on the pin used for? In the assembled piece I do not see it at all. Is it used just to smash the metal of the pin so it can sit in place?
@GrahamHazlehurst4 жыл бұрын
The end of the bolt is threaded to hold it on, the original is peened over.

@@GrahamHazlehurst Thank you! I just ordered the replacement part but it will be shipped in a month or so. Do you happen to know if I can temporarily put a bolt or something there so the gears can work because at the moment a lot of force is needed to move the stick from left to right. Moving the gear selector under the air filter is impossible.

@GrahamHazlehurst5 жыл бұрын
Check the linkages under the air filter , they ends of the cables have a rubber inner part on the end they connect, common fault is the pull out and the bonding breaks from the metal, if they are loose or come off gorilla glue back on fit and forget.

Not necessarily the culprit , its pot luck if this works , have changed mine , greased gear linkage , greased ball gaiter inside and transmission fluid and still hard to change into first.
@GrahamHazlehurst2 жыл бұрын
Not the same issue, this is nothing to do with stiff gears, the gearstick is stiff in neutral it doesn't spring back, no issue getting into gear but the gearstick itself won't move freely and is stiff where it should move easily from side to side, this is a 100% fix for this problem sounds like internal gear selector issue on your Mini.
