Get a rake harrow for your tractor to rake out the strings. Even better, cut and remove the strings when you feed the bales.

Use a ziplock bag when changing filters. You will never mess up your tractor again! I just did my cat 3208s on my boat and not one drop on the engine room floor.

I’ve done a lot of grinding in my life and have 2 tips for Robert: 1. hearing protection (wish I had taken this advice every time it was given) 2. Cover your watch, grinding will kill the face

Chris, if you use wrap on those hay bales instead of string you won't have that problem in the future. The worst thing about string if you don't pick it all up when you cut it, is when your cattle eat it. If it gets in their stomachs they can die! The strap is easier to see and pick up when you're feeding. Ask some of those old farmers you do work for.

It’s good to see that you have Robert helping you Chris! There’s a sanding pad that would probably work better on the Mulcher teeth, Chris and it has a special backing plate that mounts on a small grinder. I believe that we used a 40 grit pad and it really cut fast on tough metals! We did a lot of grinding on a metal called, Inconel! It’s a material that the plants what become it holds up to heat and different types of abrasive materials! Just thought I’d let you know about them! Just a probably 6” sanding pad that has a special locking nut that attaches to a small angle grinder and it’s easy to change out, I would just spin it off by hand! Probably at any hardware store too! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Put a pint of diesel in final drives (after you get most of the old oil out ,obv) to rinse out any crude.

Warning Chris, bail twine does not break down in the cows gut. You must make sure you take out all twine because the cows will eat it and permanently fill the cows gut killing them via starvation.

if you find more string, what i would do is bring an old grass rake with you and use it to "comb" up any string that might be left on the land, that's if you find more, just in case

A couple of things chris, if your finding your pastures not growing to well apply a granular lime to it. It will bring your ph to a 6 so your grass can grow and feed. Another thought if you have a chicken farm near by, see if he has a vacuum tank. Liquify it with a tank of water then spray it on your fields. The amount of natural nitrogen is huge and your fields will love it, but it will stink. Use it on your hay fields as well right after a cutting, the nutrition in your grass goes sky high. have you ever tried the vacuum in the fill tube trick. the vacuum pulls air in thru the drain hole when you take out the plug. turn off the vacuum off and the oil drains out. hands stay clean.

If you had an old spring-tooth harrow for the 8N you could rake the strings out easily, and probably do a pretty decent job of combining it with the topsoil if the ground isn't hardpan. Might not work as well as the rototiller, but it would be a heck of a lot easier to pick strings out of. And would give you an excuse to use the old 8N. 🙂

You say you are picking up "strings" trying to keep them out of the equipment. What are these strings, where do they come from and how do they get mixed in with the piles of manure? I’m not Chris but here goes, they use string on the round bales, then when you feed the cows you have to cut & pull the strings off cows can’t eat them, but not all get removed, ends up making a big mess. Years ago they used wire tied bales 75-80 pounds per bale had to cut & pull it off farmers would leave it in a pile outside the gate maybe 10-20 tons before they picked it up. Real mess. Hope this helps, I grew up on a farm in Oklahoma.

Hey Chris, love your content. Just some advice, make sure you get all the strings off the hay before you feed them that haybale. Cows will eat the strings on you. If a cow eats a string, it will kill that cow on you. It will bind up their guts and intestines quick. There is not much you can do afterwards, even the vets can't save that cow. I would hate to see you lose a cow, because of a mistake you could have prevented.

I have a cat that ate dental floss. Got it wrapped around her tongue and the rest of it formed adhesions all down the intestines. Surgery on a cat. $300 to remove the floss. Do you know how many kittens I could have bought for $300. Got to watch those strings

Farmed for years n learned strings left in hay or straw caused way many problems. We hung them up on nails or hooks or even 2 x 4s for tying up other things or burn in brush piles later.they burn good for brush piles.

Good idea to reuse the manure, once the strings are out the stuff should kick the grass in gear to grow! Nope, those strings are better off burning in the pile for sure! The few strings won’t stop the tiller my friend! Keep a sharp knife in case! lol 🤣😂🤣

Doing good ! I turn 'nuts' backwards until I feel a detent or hear a click - then forwards as the threads are now in the correct grove. Never a cross-thread. Thought I might mention. Need a Manure Spreader. it would help. My Uncle Art (passed many years ago now RIP) operated a dairy farm of his and 10 other children farms into a Co-Op and shared equipment between and all helped each other. It was a wonderful operation. Now sold to new farmers. The baby that was born is in business and we converse.

I wondering if your uncle John works by himself now, or has occasional help like yourself with Robert there? Or is he thinking of retiring? We've seen you arrive at enough jobsites, when the sun has barely risen, to know you must need to get up hours before dawn sometimes. I used to have to do that as a lad working on my dad's farm (getting produce to the wholesaler by 7am so the greengrocers could stock up before opening at 8am) and I didn't particularly like it.

Mentioned before, but think about using some aluminum foil to catch drips / spillage in those tough areas. Measured my Wife's kitchen " Heavy duty" foil and it was .002" thick . Not talking that material , THICKER. Quick look at McMaster-Carr ( range from .0005" - .18" ) Thinking .010" to maybe .020" would be sturdy for that type work. $50 for a 12 inch - 100 ft roll " Easy-to-form Pure 1000 series Aluminum sheets " title. Love the DIY catch bucket. Good trick vs the round ones from auto Parts store. Going to order some Pig mats, I could have used those other day. one sheet [ 14" x 19" ] can hold a quart on spillage... More than I thought Anyhow Food for thought.
