The spool-down sounds exactly like the real thing. The HLS I've heard sound a little higher-pitched around 420-440 Hz, meaning that the motor should spin between 6240 - 6500 RPM. You could achieve that with a lithium battery or just a regular power supply and/or a motor controller. I really love how this thing looks and sounds, your year of effort definitely paid off. I'll definitely print it, or have it printed.
