Answers my question about where the trash is dumped. Figured it probably went to the mainland.

Because it encourages people to seperate their waste for when it becomes economically viable to recycle again . Its like over here in the uk. Glass bottles have to be separated to make new glass.. but in actual fact it all gets mixed together to make anti skid road surfaces but you don't want the public to start mixing their colours because eventually itll be used for glass making again.
