Hey Benny, I’ve been 4wheel driving in Australia for nearly 30 years, in all weather situations and from tassie west coast to vic high country and up to cape York and everywhere in between and I would say with decent tyres you should never really have to worry to much about getting a puncture let alone needing to carry 2 spares you might consider carrying a tyre plug kit instead if you’re worried. A front winch with plasma rope not steel cable will save on weight and easier to handle. Make sure you have or make/fit some decent recovery points on the front and rear. I find some type of rear drawer setup is very handy as long as it’s lightweight. Recovery boards/ maxtrax are handy. Rock sliders/ strong side steps are great if they are solid enough to stop panel damage from ruts/tree stumps when rubbing past them. Diff locks or good lsd diffs make a huge difference especially on cars that don’t have much suspension travel, so when you lift a wheel at least the other one will still drive. If it doesn’t have diff or gearbox breathers that vent up high , fit some. If you get into deep water / mud playing consider a snorkel beforehand.

It's always nice to have all of them fancy tools, you might not "need" them but for someone who does the job everyday it makes life so much easier than having to get creative with limited tools.

Really keen on the Pajero and I've only learnt they did a mini one after seeing yours here. From experience I always find changing fluids, giving it a service etc is a great way to look around your new old car. I recently picked up a UK2000 Impreza as a light project and getting stuck in doing the above has made me more confident working on the car after years of Fords!

Thought those Galant wheels looked familiar! New ones suit though. Funnily enough, I remember coming across a forum post from a guy with a Pajero IO (don't know the ins-and-outs, but it looks identical!) who used 16" FTO wheels on his. Never been much of a 4x4 guy, but this little thing looks like a lot of fun.

The trick to stop oil going everywhere with these japanese cars and their inverted oil filters over components, is to drain the filter first and catch the oil, then remove it. Punch a vent hole in the top of the filter end, then a drain hole in the bottom of the filter end.. Have a cutout (lengthways) 2L milk/juice bottle under it when you pull the punch/screwdriver out of the lower end. This will work to drain the filter enough to prevent oil going anywhere when it's removed. With the cutout juice bottle, keep the handle end intact with lid (like a funnel) and remove enough of the rest to make it like an extended tray/ramp to the funnel (2cm high walls).. The handle makes it easier to hold ..

Dunno if it is still economic to do- we used to mod EA/ EB Falcon sedan diffs to fit in Sigmas, early Dunnydores, KE 70's- used to pay maybe $50 a diff, another $100ish changing mounts etc, and gave a bigger range of LSD packs & ratios

For a air compressor grab one like the Milwaukee tyre inflator (the bigger one), I use them to pump up my 33” tyres on my Patrol from 15psi to 40psi no problem Much better than a ARB compressor that’s fitted directly to the car That way it can be moved from vehicle to vehicle and used all around Also had nothing but dramas with ARB compressors, over time they either fail entirely or have constant air leaks
@bingysbackyard Жыл бұрын
My aircon wasn't working so I removed the condenser radiator to fit a intercooler for the diesel I the front...then I figured I might aswell use the air con compressor for a compressor so I hot a old blown up shed compressor and removed the electric motor and compressor off it and mounted the 50 litre tank in the back of my 4x4 still with the switch assembly attached and wired the air con clutch up to the compressor switch so it cuts the clutch off and on at 100psi... it worked way better than I expected it to.. it can pump a flat 38 inch tyre up in about 5 minutes from zero pressure in tank

oh you can just legally put different wheels onto your car? that is such a hassle in Germany... every single wheel needs the proper paper work- and especially for less common cars those papers just don't exist- so you are stuck with the original wheels forever..
