The greatest wrist shot in hockey, goalies feared Macleish .

Tricky Rick! RIP my man...lots of memories of you growing up watching the Flyers. Remember how excited I was to wear your number as a freshman on my high school team. Thanks for posting! I remember watching this on NBC in ‘78!

Fun to watch! Both players were top notch. I like how the guys used to carry themselves back in those days - classy, good sports - all smiles and able to carry a conversation well.

I used to love watching these. As a Sabre fan, Perreault was my favorite, but Rick MacLeish was, well, Rick MacLeish. We got MORE than enough of him in the 1975 finals. He's amazing.

Not a Flyers fan by any means...but I was always amazed at how strong MacLeish's wrist shot was. Bet he was a great golfer as well!

Perreault was a treat to watch in the 70's not afraid to try 1 one 1 stuff and was a great playmaker.

RIP Rick. You will not be forgotten. Also, aside from MacLeish, Sittler and Resch were also Flyers at one point in their careers. Resch's claim to fame was keeping Shane Corson from interfering in Ed Hospidar's beat down of Claude Lemieux in the infamous pre-game Flyers/Canadiens brawl.

PLEASE OMG....as a Devils fan in Philly typical flyers fan..."they were only known for their time as flyers." Chico's claim is being a NJ Devils Legend and being the goalie in the seires that put the Islanders on the damn map in 1975.Chico is embarassed by what he did in Montreal. In fact when you hearChico tell the story while the incident happened Chico and CLaude said to each other :what they hell are we doing this is ridiculousus and Hospadar said the same thing and wnated it to stop but by then the flyers goons had come out by that time and Chris Nilan did not want tofight..not because he was afraid but it was stupid, the entire incident was an embarrassment just ask Chico. Also talk to Chico when the Devils and FLyers had a brawl in January 1987 Chico wanted no part of it because in his heart he said he will always be a Devil and it was tough for him to be on the ice. On game that year he played against the Devils and did not want to play because he thought he was betraying the Devils. SO PLEASE with your flyers propaganda bullshit.STOP.

Ricky was my idol in 1974..75..on Blue Line seats in Phila Spectrum..watching him racing with his "river style" skating strides and that side to side puck handling with hair blowing in the breeze..zzzaaaaap ! a Ricky wrist shot like no other..miss you bro'...I'm 70 now in Thailand.

This was great to watch. Perreault seemed too tight on the targets but man could this guy fly up the middle and break a game open. This competition didn't showcase his straightaway speed. He turned many defensemen inside out on his patented rushes. Much respect to Rick who had a deadly snapshot. Two great players!

Perreault and Macleish two very smooth skaters both had great speed. Macleish had a very good wrist shot had he played in a system like Montreal's or Buffalo he would of had more goal and points. Gilbert Perreault was the best stick handler I have ever seen the only players close to him were Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey add Connor Mc David to the list

OMG I never knew about this show but we just found out how the NHL Skills Compeition was born. Good for Chico, I think back then he would be the only goalie who would want to do this. I can't wait to ask him about this. I was hoping Perrault would win because I hate the flyers so much. Good to see Howie Meeker, he was the best. I would have LOVED to seen Valary Kharlamov do this...or Sergei Kapustin.

don't be too harsh on these guys but you are right the players today are so fast and big and talented etc etc it is hard to compare era to era at the time they were some of the best players in the world even today macdavid and the like look way better than even 10 to 15 year ago players training and equipment is incredible these days ps ratelle was my favorite player and he looks so slow when i see game footage even team canada 72 and the faster team canada 76 are so slow compared to larkin macdavid makar crosby etc in fact even team canada 87 with gretzky and lemieux pale in comparison to today's game
